Big Brother Comes to a School Near You

Post by Bryn Mawr »

Why would a school want to install a couple of hundred CCTV cameras and force every student to wear a tracking device :-

Texan schoolgirl expelled for refusing to wear RFID tag • The Register

Over the top, surely?

What's her religion got to do with it? OK I know mark of the beast and all that but I hardly think you need to be religious to object to that level of surveillance.

Definitely over the top. Students should not have to be tracked during school hours like that. I wouldn't like it if teachers were required to wear them.

Reminds me of a local flap, our new county supplied trash cans have sensors in them-we were not told that when we received them. Why would they want to track our trash, or any other thing associated with that can, and why would they not inform us? It came out in the newspaper when someone discovered them, and then took the cans back-they keep putting new ones in that yard too.....

They proposed putting sensors into bins over here too. Ours were to measure the weight if rubbish so that they could charge you extra if you had "too much rubbish".

How "too much rubbish" was to be defined was never made clear.
