Magnitude 7.7 quake hits Canada's British Columbia, USGS reports - World News

The quake was centered 123 miles south-southwest of Prince Rupert at a depth of 6.2 miles, the USGS said.

Coastal areas of Alaska and the Pacific Northwest were under a tsunami warning after the quake shook the Queen Charlotte Islands area, followed by a 5.8-magnitude aftershock several minutes later.

That's her area.

The story's been updated, the tsunami has hit Hawaii: ""If you are stuck in traffic, you might consider getting out of your car and consider walking to higher ground. You will have to assess your own situation, depending on where you are right now. Right now it is critical," he said."

Yikes.

She's not, I hope, on the Queen Charlotte Islands. I saw the USGS earthquake notice but I didn't know where the Queen Charlotte Islands were until I checked this thread. That's a big earthquake.

Hopefully everyone is ok.

Koan is tough, she probably sat through the entire thing sipping a cup of tea.

I'm thinking she's near Victoria on one of the islands but it's still close.

Tsumani didn't reach Hawaii as expected - the tide raised & waves were larger- hotels did move people to higher rooms.

Spoke to our Canadian friend in B.C. - rocked the area - pretty strong quake.

I leave for Hawaii Tuesday - I was in Hawaii a few years ago with a tsunami scare.

Hopefully there's not too much damage from this and every one is safe.
