What is the best PC monitor for video and photo's?
Hi I am looking to buy a PC monitor to replace my old one, which is a CMV. I have been looking at Samsung and HP and I would like to know which are the best monitors to go for on the market at the moment. I would not pay no higher then £140 at the most.
Many thanks.
Many thanks.

What size do you like? They're roughly, measured diagonally corner to corner of the lit-up display area, 15, 17, 19 or 21 inches. That gives you a resolution of between 1280x1024 and 1920x1200. I think you can get any of those as bright high-contrast LCD displays for £140.
Perhaps you have other requirements like weight or connector type - do you need all the possible VGA, DVI, and HDMI inputs or just one or two?

I have heard that LCD are best for viewing photo's.

If it's blue and you twist a wheel then it's VGA. That's the original standard. Grey and twist a wheel is DVI, no wheels at all is HDMI and that's newest.
I'll look for 18"+ LCD with at least VGA and see what's recommended.

Acer V223HQVb - LCD monitor - 21.5" (ET.WV3HE.017) - dabs.com
If that's not what's on my boy's PC downstairs it's very similar.
The 3 year guarantee is reassuring. The specification is good, the shape is ideal for displaying photos.
It only has a VGA cable connection, which is what you need at the moment. If you eventually buy another PC one day you'll need to check that has a VGA connector too.

The HP looks the better buy and you should be able to get it at around the £125 mark.
ETA. To be honest, the Acer at £87 looks just as good.

You seem like the ultimate consumer. You probably know more than most FG users what the answer to your questions are. Perhaps you should frame your questions more like answers so we can more honestly assess your posts.
On the other hand, maybe you really need confirmation of all the info you've previously gathered.

Koan I am not being rude but that's not a very sensible answer is it? Being rude and offensive to people is not going to get you any brownie points. Thank you.

There's nothing wrong with being a good consumer. The world's economy depends upon it. I merely seek the full story. What happened to your old monitor?

I use amazon.com reviews as a starting point, you get consumer opinions from people that have actually bought and used the product. Unfortunately you're not going to find all the answers here at Forum Garden, there aren't that many active members and one person doesn't always know everything.

Well, so do I, actually. Okay, strike that last comment from my post.

My last monitor was part of an all in one so when the monitor went the entire PC was useless. What happened to yours? You just got tired of looking at grainy images? You decided that it was too old and assumed it wasn't good anymore? You started losing vision and need a bigger screen? I want the story.

I have a 22" AOC monitor which was on offer at the time, pretty good and is one pc world are now supplying with a lot of their computers. If you use spreadsheets a lot a wide screen is a good idea unless you are in to scrolling inn a big way. Mainly letters width not such a factor. Most films etc are wide screen so too small a screen can be a bit distorting in my experi4nce. Basically get the biggest you can rerasonably get on your desk.
