WASHINGTON – Raising new concerns about the use of weapons of mass destruction by terrorists, al-Qaida is planning spectacular attacks next month against the U.S., Russia and Europe in what it is calling the "Great Ramadan Offensive."

The offensive, designed to overshadow the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks on New York and the Pentagon, was first referenced in a May 30 letter written by al-Qaida's Iraq commander Abu Musab Zarqawi to Osama bin Laden. It is the subject of a report written by terrorism expert Yossef Bodansky, the former director of the Congressional Task Force on Terrorism and Unconventional Warfare, to government officials.

Ramadan, the holiest period in the Muslim calendar, begins Oct. 4 this year and lasts a month.

Has anyone heard about the article (now a book) "Terror In The Skies, Why 9/11 Could Happen Again" by Annie Jacobsen. Do you think the events that took place on her flight (also known as "dry runs" by the terrorist network) are the ones we should be expecting according to Ramadan Offensive?

I read the article a while back and just received the book. Pretty scary!

From the beginning of this reign of horror, I have never understood this: If we have the capability to intercept such detailed communications between terrorists, why arent we able to locate them? If the government was looking for me, and I was receiving mail, or faxes, or e mails, etc.... you know they would find me in a heartbeat. I guess my confusion is ignorance, because my understanding of technology is very limited.... but I have always wanted an explanation for this.

randall trundling around on his penny-farthing again (I wish some Scotsman would invent pneumatic tyres - these wooden rims are killing me. No wonder they call them "bone shakers".)

Wars, wars and wars, I doubt if they will ever cease - if you believe The Bible literally, they will only get worse?

There is an old story of a Scottish Tinkey (Traveller - nowadays?) fishing with a rude rod and line on a river and pulling in the salmon.

A man in tweeds comes along and said to him, "Don't you know what you are doing is illegal, in fact, you are committing a serious crime."

"Why?

"Well all this land and that river belongs to me and all the fish in it."

"Who are you?"

"I am Invernettie of Invernettie."

"Och, you mean to say your a laird or something?"

"Yes indeed. " he replied puffing out his cheeks. "I am actually Lord Invernettie of Invernettie and I have a seat in the House of Lords.."

"Is that so," the tinker replied slowly, obviously completely unimpressed, still fishing and still pulling in more salmon.

"And how did you come to own all this land and the river and the fish?"

"It was handed down to me by my father the old Laird."

"And who did he get it from?"

"It was handed down by his father, his grandfather and great grandfather before him."

Lord Invernettie of Invernettie was full inflated by now and surfing on top of a wave of self importance.

"And how did your Great, Great, Great, Great Grandfather come to own this land."

"He fought the Red Comyn for it and won it at the battle of Killiewinkie under King Robert the III who then gave him the charter to it."

"Well," said the tinker slowly, laying down his rod and line. "I'll tell you what we'll do," at the same time taking off his jacket.

"I'll fight you for it here and now. Whoever wins keeps it and hands it down to his children."

The offer was hastily declined as the Laird disappeared quickly to find his Gilles.

Humorous but true.

We are all victims or beneficiaries of those who came before us and anyone who disregards this fact does so at their own peril.

If the Jewish scientist who invented a cheaper way of mass producing gelatin (desperately required by Great Britain for the manufacture of explosives in the middle of the First World War) - and a grateful Prime minister, Mr Baldwin, had not offered him anything he wanted in reward - his reply was that he was not interested in any personal reward but only wanted a homeland for his people - where upon Mr Baldwin offered him Palestine in the notorious "Baldwin Declaration" - when it wasn't even his to give - would we be having all this trouble in the middle east right now?

Food for thought.

God bless.

Then you get them into conversation through emails making sure that they post their replies to the thread in question. You are cunning because you reply to the thread only when the info will make you look like the good person. When have you asked me a direct question when it comes to serious debate? What you do is ask direct questions about personal details. Out of all the people who have replied you are the one who is unhelpful. I know you are well read, but still your aim is shut up the strong woman. Again, name calling and swearing. If I was not a direct person I would not be taking you on now. You are a typically weak woman who hides behind others. Then cries when she is caught out. Next thing you will be using your monthly period as an excuse. Go rest yourself...

Do you realize that many of us here do not even know what color each other are?

We never asked. Unless someone volunteered..we never know. I would venture to say ( Having been around a long while....and then watching over many of the posters here for a long while..) that many of us are what is called Color Blind. That is to say, a persons color is something we naturally do not even consider when we meet someone, or when we reply to them here. In a way participating on this forum is sort of like being blind, and that is a beautiful thing. I didnt know what color you were until things became hostile and I read posts backwards. Your anger, hostility and agression may be justified. However, you werent abused here. Your bad attitude seems to be preventing you from benefitting from anything good you would have received here. Just some food for thought.
