I've forgotten what spot's point was when he said this guy would be giving a press conference shortly after the attack. That his injuries weren't that severe? That they had lied about it so the cop would be covered for his use of "unnecessary force"? Something like that, right?

Yeah, it was probably the cop that popped this guy's eyeballs out just to cover his ass.

Let's get it right. I said, shortly after the attack, that Mr Poppo would eventually at some stage give a press conference. I said I'd come back to the thread and comment on "Police sources say the man had virtually no face and was unrecognizable". We've now seen photos of Mr Poppo taken since the attack. I was quite right, he's recognisable, the damage to his face is confined between his hairline and his upper lip.

We've not had a press conference yet. This week Miami news station WFOR-TV reported the content of a police interview that was taped on July 19. Mr Poppo still hasn't appeared before the press.

I was annoyed by the lies and speculation in the initial press reports which aimed to demonize Rudy Eugene. All the stuff about cannibalism, for example. The claim that he'd stripped Mr Poppo naked. The mephedrone "bath salts". I'm still annoyed by it all, it's achieved what it set out to do which is to prevent reasoned discussion of the day's events.

There was a dirty fight. It seems likely to have been unprovoked. The idea that it could only have been stopped by killing Rudy Eugene is disgraceful.

We'll see, of course, when he holds a press conference. What's not true is that his face was ripped off in the attack. He lost an eye and nose. People have worse happen during shunts on the turnpike every day. Let's wait and see when he's not covered in bandages and plaster, shall we?

Just an eye and a nose then.........both ears and an eye....and his lips intact.

Bloody papers exaggerating again.

Seriously..............what percentage would be enough to use the 'Face ripped off' analogy ?

There's a list of treated instances at Face transplant

Oh but it is. Each instance in the article describes the damage which I reckon qualifies it as "Face ripped off". It saves me from typing a screenload of detail.

You can talk of screenload of detail, what might be called poetic or writer's licence...............but you stick like glue on such minute detail from reports taken when the blood was still flowing.

If 15.23% more flesh had been torn from the left quadrant of his chin to the lower occipital eye ridge, then that might... *might* qualify as having his 'face ripped off.' But spot would have to carefully review the depth of the flesh removed, hypodermis has to be exposed. He still has his ears as well, so that's a few points off as well.

Just so we're all singing off the same hymn sheet, are we agreed Mr Poppo's not given a press conference yet? Despite the thread title?
