3. Exactly the way schools cope with children dropping out at 16 and wanting to opt back in at 17.

In the States the disillusioned drop-out can acquire a GED (General Equivalency Degree), and then pursue further education at the local junior college.

Once they have dropped from the public school roles, they are usually on their own.

If 16 year old drops out of school and wishes to return to school a year later at 17 years old, they enter the higher education system ie college the same as children leaving at 16 years old.

Dropping out at 14 and wanting to return at 15 would mean major national disruption to local schools or major changes to the higher education system to take 15 year olds costing millions.

Interestingly... there are already a number of 14 and 15 year old children already in the college setting, purely because school just doesn't suit them.

What this country needs is more schools running on the Montessori theory.

I'm all for a bit of that, yes. I'd also note that Summerhill is a model which could be replicated to considerable effect, it seems to have been good for a lot of the children who went there.

My first two posts to the thread were relevant to the OP, the rest began as a challenge to a lack of logic.

Introducing Montessori and Summerhill brought the thread back to relevance, I thought. That's what it was for anyway.
