Prometheus (2012)

Ridley Scott's returns to the sci-fi genre with a prequel to the original 1979 Alien film.

It's definitely a prequel but tells it's own story in the Alien universe, about the 'Space Jockeys' (like the fossiled one discovered by Jon Hurt and co in the Alien film), their universe and the creation of mankind.

I liked the film, but I'm a huge fan of the early Alien films. And because it tells it's own story, it often leaves more questions than answers, which is not always a bad thing for the imagination.

I really liked it. My beloved got a little wrapped around the axle about who was able to know what, but I thought it was well done.

I got a sense of helpless rage for the heroine, there was no way to stop that psychotic bitch from ruining her past. I really liked the gardener and her boyfriend too. :(

Went with the grandson to watch the new Robocop movie the other night.

Well, if you ignore some very sticky plot devices, and and a lot of gratuitous gun-play, and a few of those, "Why the heck did they do THAT?" moments, and some rather ridiculous moments of family bonding, it was a pretty interesting commentary on American culture.

And Samuel L Jackson's character is pretty damned scary. Mostly because of the people he reminds one of.

A thought occurred to me.

Machines may not be corruptible, but obviously, Red Assets are.

If you've seen the movie, you'll know what that means.
The home of the soul is the Open Road.

I saw the trailer to the new "Noah" film, which looked interesting, so I gave it a look.

A perfect example of how misleading a creatively made trailer can be. 2 hours & 20 minutes of yawwwnnnn!!!

(Nothing like the book - I don't remember the Rock Eater from Never Ending Story or Scaly Dinosaur Dogs in the book version either)

Just saw Dawn of the Planet of the Apes. I give it my highest recommendation! Non-stop action. I could believe every scene. I love movies.

One of this season's songs with the choir is "Seize The Day", which I assumed to be a Spiritual / Gospel song. A couple of weeks ago the Musical Director asked if anyone had seen the film it was from ("Newsies"). No-one had, or even heard of it - including him, so I decided to download it. An absolutely brilliant Disney film (1992), although apparently it's also a Stage Musical.

I had originally thought the title referred to the fashion type, being in with whatever's "New", but it refers to the News Boys of 1920s / 1930s New York & how they were being exploited by the Newspaper Giants. They then decide to stand up for themselves & take strike action, with "Seize The Day" as their battle cry. The 'gates' in the lyric "Open the gates & seize the day" refers to the gates of the press, not the Pearly Gates, as I had originally thought.

Overall a fantastic family film - and could even be seen as educational as far as Social History is concerned.

Yeah, that's on my list. I spun up "On a Clear Day, You Can See Forever" tonight. Loved it. Bonus: it put my girl ( wife ) in a good mood!
