If any of you have Netflix, I highly recommend a Thai film called Dorm (2006) - IMDb

ETA: I forgot to mention it's on "watch instantly" streaming video.

Speaking of foreign films, I saw an amazing crime / prison movie from France called 'A Prophet" recently. The transformation of a 19 year old innocent to major crime lord was unbelievable. I thought it was better than "Scarface."

Watch out, though. It's VERY violent.

I watched Buried a few months ago. Liked it tremendously.

I also recently watched Source Code. Silly, but fun.

I might check out the French movie, they're usually pretty good.

Seeing the previews for that movie looked like they really did change. The wife and I are looking forward to seeing it.

The Brothers Bloom

Adrien Brody, Rachel Weisz, and Mark Ruffalo

This is one of the oddest movies I have seen this year. It goes on forever, in a surreal, ludicrous seriousness, but doesn't let you go.

And then ends with such predictability, after steering you towards, and then away from the very end you know will come.

Weisz and Brody are tremendous together. I hope to see them do something else.

I saw Buried last night. I was impressed how a movie could not only last 90 minutes with only one actor (besides voices) but be shot entirely in a wooden box and also still maintain the viewers interest. I was surprised by the ending, too. I like Ryan Reynolds' movies and he really pulled this one off. Not a movie for the claustrophobic though.

I've been wanting to see that one, I might check it out this weekend.

I watched The Conspirator (2010) - IMDb, it was surprisingly affecting.

Recently,

The Quiet American, with Brendan Frazier, Michael Caine.

The story is around the time the French are about to leave Indochine, and the American presence in the form of the CIA - formerly known as OSS - is becoming influential in local politics.

Mr Caine makes this film. Frazier works very well at being a seemingly naive young American, who turns out to be more than expected.

New Mission Impossible : Ghost protocol. Yup. Best movie title ever and a good flick too. Oh...and I watched "Rescue from Gilligan's Island" which I loved except for the fake Ginger. (The original died young I think.)

I used to love Gilligan's Island! I think Ginger (Tina Louise) is still alive. She played JR's secretary in the early Dallas episodes till the character "accidentally" fell off of the roof of a several story building. Hey, it happens! :-3

Well, Robert Pattinson, the kid from that vampire series is the Protagonists, and he does a decent job.

Reese Witherspoon also does well.

The whole story is pretty bizarre.

August, played brilliantly by Christopher Walz, reminds me of my son in law.

IT is a harsh film to watch, but it is worth the effort.

I am pretty certain that any time someone falls off a roof, it is an accident. Except, of course for the occasional event where it wasn't.

I put "accidentally" in quotes to indicate tongue in cheek. I think she was thrown off the roof as part of a nefarious plot to silence her. It worked!

Yes, Rum Diaries was great. Weird, but great.

I didn't know that Tim Burton and Depp had teamed up for Dark Shadows. Can't wait to see what they come up with.

"The Iron Lady" I rented "Haywire" - just OK, "Contraband" - good but forgettable, and 'The Iron Lady." I expected the last to be the worst and the first to be the best, but was I ever shocked! "The Iron Lady" was outstanding. I'm very interested to see what our British friends here think about it. I loved it and I'm still thinking about it today.

Contagion, one of the most terrifying movies I've seen recently. The contagious disease aspect was scary but the looting and violent mobs were the part that really scared me. I'd be dead meat in a situation like that.

I have heard that a lot.

I watched the Swedish version. While they took some shortcuts, they stayed fairly close on the plot and story line.

I have yet to watch the one with Daniel Craig.

Really cool glasses.

I've found that as long as the camera stays still and the people move, it looks pretty cool. When the camera moves - like swings from one face to another or something - then it becomes really hard to focus. The best 3D movie I saw was Avatar, hands down. That was an experience!

I don't know why John Carter bombed at the box office , I thought it was great fun. Sort of reminiscent of the original Star Wars trilogy (not the recent crap) with a little less cartoony 1980 Flash Gordon.
