Here's the unedited speech:
Oops. Wrong speech. Odd. I can't find the speech Maddow shows ... not even on the Whitehouse archives web page.

I've had trouble listening to a lot of the political speeches lately without eyes wide, jaw dropped, brain ****ed wonder that the English language has been so mutilated.
The only thing Obama could possibly say about this bill if he chooses to talk about it in public (and it's quite surprising he didn't just sign and duck) would be to claim the Republicans made him sign it by bundling it with something so compellingly important he had to choose sign and edit later. No matter what he says, he's now the historically important president who officially took away the right of habeas corpus. He'll be remembered forever.

If this doesn't convince people that there isn't a significant difference between our two major parties then I don't know what will.

I'm not convinced. Bush and Cheney started the ball rolling, Obama has apparently legitimized it.

"Legitimized". If he were different wouldn't he have abolished it instead?

Oh ****, I misread you! We're in complete agreement.
Sorry. *blush*

I had another run in with my local conspiracy nut and he insisted I worry about Obama's law. I said, "yeah, he's the president who officially destroyed habeas corpus" and he went "no, he made it so Americans can be arrested and held without trial! And he..." so I interrupted and said "destroyed habeas corpus" and he said "you gotta listen! according to this law..." so I said "habeas corpus is the right to not be unfairly detained." Then he started all over again. This is the problem with conspiracy theorists.
Ultimately, I told him that, as Canadians, we should be more upset about America deciding it has the ability to set an international law single handedly by declaring they can detain on suspicion anyone in any country based merely on suspicion of suspected future crimes. He then exploded and told me I don't believe in anything... meaning I wasn't blindly following his misguided lead. It all finished with me telling him I believed a lot of things, I was just more careful about which things I focus on.
These are serious times and it's really important that we get illogical people to stop for a minute and find out what point they are missing.

As a non american why should you worry unless your government agrees to just hand over people to the states without requiring any justification.

OK I thought I'd read something about a Canadian being a victim of rendition.
