Gotta love those Russians
A Russian newscaster made quite the statement when she flipped off President Barack Obama during a show earlier this month.
Tatyana Limanova, an award-winning journalist from a privately-owned Russian television channel REN TV, was reading a segment about the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation conference when she seems to have purposely gave viewers an offensive symbol when she said the American president's name.
She is looking down as she talks about how Russian president Dmitry Medvedev will be assuming the head of the conference as part of the rotating chairmanship.

Without a translation you don't know what the gesture means, flipping off as you put it is not actually a universal gesture. Besides given the abuse American YV commentators heap ion russia you can hardly start throwing the toys out the pram over it. complain. On the face of it it does seem that was her intent though.
Your president seems hell bent on starting another cold war for no good reason.

Look at it from russia's point of view there are american missiles all around russia's borders.

Why should she? American news commentators are often fairly derogatory about other country's leaders and nobody gets upset about it why would would you except other countries to show fawning respect for your president or even care? It's no big deal surely.
So far Obama has managed to antagonise both the chinese and the russians, seems determined to start another cold war and pick a hot one with Iran and is beginning to annoy france and germany, our PM is a fawning arsehole as usual. the Obama administration honeymoon period is rather over.
You do realise the daily mail is a right wing newspaper noted for its hysterical and often inaccurate reporting and slavering obsession with celebrities. I'm surprised hoppy has even heard of it never mind actually reads it.

Everyone has their favorite news sources and look down on everyone else's. I don't have time to check 'em all out. I doubt you do either.

I don't pretend that I do,, not least because I have other things to do, but if you posted a suggested news source at the very least I would look out of curiosity to see what interested you. That's the point if a discussion forum (to me at any rate) to open yourself up to different viewpoints. Good grief I've even watched glen beck just to see what people were on about. Same facts just the different viewpoints and interpretation.

Good question. Everything you read and hear is just someone else's opinion.

Opinion is better described as 'Point of view'
A literal 'Point of view' of any individual is drastically altered by moving their own vantage position, or view point slightly.
I had a eureka moment when 'point of view' was taken literally.
Taken literally a person stood on a mountain top can make a half turn and see 'things' they could have never countenanced or were beyond their imagination.
The world would be a far better place if people could put themselves in the view point of others and see things from their point of view.

Nice thought. If only...The saddest two words in any language. What we are left with is the illusion of free expression. If controls were not in place to prohibit and inhibit expression to general acceptable level, then it would be a world wide free for all with everyone on the planet having hurt feelings. While the middle finger, to English speaking countries is known as the good 'ol American ******* You..and the British equivalent is the two finger salute, one might ask if the Russian newsreaders gesture was meant to be seen by the English speaking world?

What forum members have a right to expect is that one at least check out the sources one quotes. I don't see that as too much of a burden.

I wouldn't care really, it's just that not a damn person I've ever met has satisfied my definition of communism, otherwise I couldn't think of a better compliment.
Sad really

I know a few protestants that would happily show you how to do it properly - the american version always seems slightly limp wristed to me, used to it now thanks to films but it fdid used to be a meaningless gesture, it''s a mistake to assume obscene gestures are the same the world over.
