Walk In Their Footsteps

On my drive home from work this week, I noticed a new billboard promoting a website sponsored by the Virgina Tourism Board. It had an image of Elizabeth Van Lew (Union spy) and the words "Walk in Their Footsteps" along with a website address (above). History buff that I am, I checked it out but I'm a little disappointed.

The site clearly focuses on the Civil War. It starts out with great music and intrigue. I like the idea of the cards display but I'm curious how they narrowed it down to 5 or 6 out of possibly 100s. Once I click on a card, sometimes nothing happens ... sometimes I have to click 10 times to bring up a short bio. If I try to go to the 2nd page of the bio, nothing happens 9 times out of 10. Frustrating! Maybe it's just my computer? Not sure.

I think the premise is great but possibly they made it public before getting the kinks out of it.

I read a biography of Elizabeth Van Lew a few years ago and although my ancestors fought on the other side, I concede that she's a brave woman indeed!
