Has American Politics Become Irrelevant?

Post by K.Snyder »

I think no matter who the republicans choose they will have to steal this election. Obama has charisma...These republicans are desperate...

Romney and Paul are the same old story only for Perry to burst on to the scene to make a joke nobody gets and Cain was so shocked that he was noticed seemed to forget he'd sexually harassed a couple of females when working as a pizza king...

The only sickening part is that republicans can still probably win this thing,..god I'm going to vomit

I do believe this is a contradiction, lest we both agree that "so many" are consciously willing to be oppressed, which I would most certainly be willing to agree on except it's just that republicans only chance in winning office is to be voted in which further complicates the matter.

Is it not more a case that he election is for Obama to lose rather than the republicans win? there's such a groundswell in favour of a sea change in the direction america is going (seems to be anyway) all Obama needs to do is ride the wave. It does seem however he is as much in the control of big business as the republicans. It's ironic really, having helped combat fascism in ww2 you have ended up a nation ruled by fascists.

It's ironic really, having helped combat fascism in ww2 you have ended up a nation ruled by fascists.I won't pretend that democrats are angels, but I would rather suggest it's a matter of the republicans losing as opposed to the dems winning...Then there are those calling for the liberals to enter office which they seem to forget it's only a matter of time before they themselves get swallowed by the machine.

I think Obama's reserved nature is different than being in "as much in the control of big business as the republicans"...Obama would never be in favor of issue 1, 2, or 3, here in Ohio for example...

Unfortunately, the powers in place (democrat, republican, conservative, liberal, etc..,) have made almost impossible to do otherwise without somekind of major uprising.

Anyone have the pleasure of watching tonight's republican debate on CNBC?

No I did not, but out of all the debates(republican, demorcratic, presidential, vice presidential, etc..,) I have seen since I started watching them when I was like 22 if there was one word I would use to describe them pleasurable is not one of them.

That doesn't make it relevant to much except other debates, which of course leads to the participants of the debate to debate the relevance of said debate. Which is usually what happens and thus why I think they are anything but pleasurable.

When was the last time you would say that American Politics actually was relevant? What I would suggest, is that politics is as relevant as the lack of the impact the government has on the public. Which means that when appointed politicians achieve an approval rating of what I would say is 85%(Being incredibly conservative ) then politics becomes irrelevant. And when the appointees have less than what I would say is a 25% approval rating then politics is at it's peak relevance...give or take...

It speaks for itself but alas perhaps needs to be analyzed for roughly 10 hours...

I agree. The moderators didn't try to create a reality TV by trying to put them at each other's throats. They kept on the subject of the economy, for the most part.

It was good to see Maria Bartiromo slap a few of them down, especially Gingrich. But that will undoubtedly increase Gingrich's stock as a viable option, Bartiromo exposed him as the fool he really is. What did you think of Gingrich's answer to the question of out of control higher education costs? Sounded awfully socialist to me.

I think I've decided that the majority of republican primary voters prefer the disruptive schoolhouse clown to more serious options. Gingrich definitely fits that bill, but his problem is he appears to be pro choice enough to sabotage his chances. Gingrich, I don't believe, ever did want anything out of this entire charade other than to: 1) sell books: and 2) possibly vie for either VP or another cabinet position, though the more I observe the guy, I think he may just want to remain off the political stage. Can't blame him due to his baggage.

With him, there isn't a problem that exists that can't be solved with a new federal program.

You may be right. When he's not speaking I'm reminded of Ross Perot's VP nominee. :D

I found a site that has all the debates this year (yeh I know, you don't have to say it) and I think this one might actually be better:

Video: Full Palmetto Freedom Forum from Columbia, SC « 2012 Election Central

They only had 5 candidates on, but they sequestered them and brought them out one at a time to ask them the same questions. They rephrased the questions, but the gist was the same.

Thanks, that was worth watching, though I didn't bother listening to Romney (can't stand the guy at this point).

It was refreshing to hear Paul tell that guy that stretching and reinterpreting the 14th Amendment was just as wrong as stretching and reinterpreting the Commerce Clause or any of the others.

Yeah, Paul pointed out very poignantly how the gop is not really interested in stopping abortions as much as keeping it a hot issue. That is worse than any name-calling the gop does to the left. I think the Christian Bible labels such people as "reprobate", doesn't it?

Oh Goody, a gop debate tonight. How Santorum, Gingrich and Romney can actually walk onto a stage in front of millions of viewers and not appear ashamed is so beyond me.

I'd forgotten. I was watching the other American Idol (the original one). Just watching 20 seconds or so, I want to start yelling "JerrY! JerrY! JerrY!"

I'm serious, what a bunch of dimwits, and I mean all four of them, Paul sounded just as asinine as the other three at times. Obama is going to run away with this election. The result may end up even more lopsided than it was against McCain.

If I were a member of Obama's team I'd make sure to show a side view of Mitt Romney walking in every ad if he is the nominee. The guy walks a bit feminine and like he just had a hernia operation. Conservatives like manly characteristics in their presidents, many won't vote for Romney just due to his walking style. Then once he [Romney] opens his mouth the real trouble begins. No chance for Romney.

With Santorum all you have to do is let the guy speak. Ricky meanders in and out of religious references constantly, and that smug smile of his is so phony it's heartbreaking.

What do I need to say about Gingrich, the man does nothing but try to cue reactions from audiences. Whenever Newt opens his mouth he peeks out the corner of his eye to see if he's caused a stir.

Ron Paul has got to cease the giggling when he speaks and begin to speak authoritatively.

Obama will make any one of these clowns appear amateur.

Maybe with a second election behind him Obama will be the progressive he promised to be while running for his first term. It's the only hope a person such as myself has. This election is as good as over already, IMO.
