SNOW, SNOW, and more SNOW!

Post by cars »

Just got power back yesterday. Lost elec power Friday night (10/28) around 9:30, many trees were down already! It's still so early in the season that the trees had most of thier leaves still on. Which created disastrous effects weighing so heavily on the branches & limbs with the 16" of heavy wet snow, that stuck to everything (including power lines) like glue. And to make matters worse, mother nature at her finest, made sure the temps fell to 29f to 25f at night, each night!!! Every tree (some 60 feet high) in our back yard has been distroyed, with limbs 30 to 40 feet long all over the place! In addition, most all of our shrubs, & bushes have also been severly damaged.

Worst for us physically, was the bone chilling "COLD". Since after the fist night the ambient temp in the house hovered at around 48f to 50f. We had coats on during the day, and slept with "4" blankets & 3 set of PJ's on at night. Fortunately, if you can call it that, the limb I was worried about overhanging our roof, thankfully did not fall. If it did, it surely would have come through the roof!

Hope homeowner's insurance will cover some of the loss. Been calling our agent all day yesterday, as well as this morning, kept getting the message: The line is busy! Bet he's got the phone off the hook!:sneaky:

We've got 33 on sunday and it's been so humid the last month. We have real Springs back . Summer is going to be a bit hot me thinks.

But you're right isn't that a bit early for snow?

My area as well got belted with 14" of heavy wet snow. I also have downed trees all over my property. I lost power a little after 10 pm. I'm very lucky that I bought a home where I have a fireplace and the previous owner had installed a generator. The generator runs on gas (which I always have plenty of) and provides power for 17 hours before it needs refilling. The generator is a blessing for me and I can't imagine being without it. It's rare to find a house in my area that is without a generator.

Good luck with your homeowner's insurance. I called mine and they told me that since there was no damage caused to my home due to the downed trees, they won't pay a dime. I called some tree service companies to see if they would take the trees and sell or use the wood. One guy jumped on the idea because he sells fire wood. He's coming today, as a matter of fact, to start the clean up and removal.

I'm sorry you have such damage to trees, bushes and shrubs. At least you and your wife didn't get hurt and one can always replant.

I hope neither of you end up sick. I'm glad you were both safe though. I'm just dreading the thought of winter. I absolutely hate it.

SNOW, SNOW, and more SNOW!

The second storm in a week blew through here last night. Most of the trees were knocked down last week, and power lines repaired, so the power was stable this time.

Last week, as I am digging out, I remembered all the things I hated about winter in Colorado.

But the next morning, driving to work with the snow-covered trees gleaming in the bright sun, and viewing the Rockies, in all their snowbound majesty, I remembered all the things I love about winter in Colorado.

As for the North East, I am sorry to hear of all the difficulties that storm caused.

Unfortunately, it looks like more on the way.

If that is just the start of winter then the very best of luck to you all, it sounds like you'll need it.

Wow Cars...that is horrible! We had a blanket of snow as we traveled through Maryland and Pennsylvania last weekend but it was gone by the next day. I am glad you "weathered the storm" but yuck as it is. Aren't you supposed to be headed South soon??? I bet not soon enough huh?

Why yes indeed, we are scheduled to head south first week in December! This was a freak storm that came too early, and worst I've ever seen here!

We are still here cause we have a tradition where we always hold Thanksgiving Dinner at our house for family & close friends. So hope it doesn't SNOW again before we leave.

Here's a few pix of the nasty SNOW storm Alfred! We had no power, heat, or water for "4" days, it was tough! Close to "300,000" people are "still" without power as of the post! So guess we're lucky!:wah:
