American Rights
Will we still be the Country of choice and still be America if we continue to make the changes forced on us by the people from other countries that came to live in America because it is the Country of Choice??????
Think about it....
All I have to say is, when will they do something about MY RIGHTS? I celebrate Christmas, but because it isn't celebrated by everyone, we can no longer say Merry Christmas. Now it has to be Season's Greetings. It's not Christmas vacation, it's Winter Break Isn't it amazing how this winter break ALWAYS occurs over the Christmas holiday? We've gone so far the other way, bent over backwards to not offend anyone, that I am now being offended. But it seems that no one has a problem with that.
This says it all!

IMMIGRANTS, NOT AMERICANS, MUST ADAPT.
I am tired of this nation worrying about whether we are offending some individual or their culture. Since the terrorist attacks on Sept. 11, we have experienced a surge in patriotism by the majority of Americans. However, the dust from the attacks had barely settled when the "politically correct" crowd began complaining about the possibility that our patriotism was offending others.
I am not against immigration, nor do I hold a grudge against anyone who is seeking a better life by coming to America. Our population is almost entirely made up of descendants of immigrants.
However, there are a few things that those who have recently come to
our country, and apparently some born here, need to understand. This idea of America being a multicultural community has served only to dilute our sovereignty and our national identity.
As Americans, we have our own culture, our own society, our own language and our own lifestyle. This culture has been developed over centuries of struggles, trials, and victories by millions of men and women who have sought freedom.
We speak ENGLISH, not Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic, Chinese, Japanese, Russian, or any other language. Therefore, if you wish to become part
of our society, learn the language!
"In God We Trust" is our national motto. This is not some Christian, right wing, political slogan. We adopted this motto because Christian men and women, on Christian principles, founded this nation, and this is clearly documented. It is certainly appropriate to display it on the walls of our schools. If God offends you, then I suggest you consider another part of the world as your new home, because God is part of our culture.
If Stars and Stripes offend you, or you don't like Uncle Sam, then you
should seriously consider a move to another part of this planet. We
are happy with our culture and have no desire to change, and we really
don't care how you did things where you came from.
This is OUR COUNTRY, our land, and our lifestyle. Our First Amendment gives every citizen the right to express his opinion and we will allow you every opportunity to do so. But once you are done complaining, whining, and griping about our flag, our pledge, our national motto, or our way of life, I highly encourage you take advantage of one other great American freedom, THE RIGHT TO LEAVE.
It is Time for America to Speak up.

I agree with the author!
Unfortunately, the loudest whiners seem to be native-born Americans. The ACLU spokespeople have accents from California, the midwest, or South rather than Mexico or Europe.

My grandparents moved here from Italy and Germany respectively, escaping Nazi Germany and Facist Italy. They came thru Ellis Island, established their own businesses, learned English and were so thrilled to be accepted in a country where you could speak your mind without being tossed in jail.
As for myself, I have refused to cave in to the political correctness of not saying Merry Christmas to someone.. and if they point out that they don't celebrate Christmas, my reply "well that is your perogative".. I am tired of the immoral minority attempting to unsurp my rights to say what I want, think what I want and celebrate holidays the way that I want..

Everybody practice this phrase:
"That's allowed."
Practice it until you can say it with a genuine smile every time. Then, if anyone tells you they don't like/believe in whatever it is you're enjoying, look them in the eye, smile pleasantly, and say, "That's allowed," and proceed with life. I started doing it to frustrate my students that complained about certain rules (they're allowed to not like it), but have since found it has many general uses.

I TOTALLY agree with you BR!
In England we are also condemned for not being politically correct!
A major news item just a day or two ago said that we are heading towards becoming a split nation - blacks against whites. However, it is the politically correct brigade who are causing all the argument and strife!
For instance, our children MUST wear the set school uniform whereas the muslim children are allowed to amend the uniform and wear scarves covering their heads. Muslim girls are also allowed to wear their traditional jewellery to school, whereas English children are banned from wearing crucifixes in case it offends other nationalities! Our children are no longer allowed to pray in some schools - as our prayers offend!
It is illegal to ride a motorbike without wearing a crash helmet.....unless you're a turban-wearing sikh as the turban wont fit under the crash helmet! They do claim that the turban is as protective as a crash helmet!! But personally I can't see how a length of cloth and some extra hair would protect you as well as a proper helmet. Even if a turban can equate to the crushable foam inner of a helmet, how can it compare to the hard protective outer casing??
My husband works for British Telecom who had a policy of sharing out any overtime. However, the asian workers complained they were being discriminated against and so now they take ALL the overtime which is paid at a higher rate of pay!
There are also daily news items of immigrants entering our country ad the only english word they know is "house" - so they get given a house! Yet thousands of young british people cannot even get on the bottom-most rung of the housing ladder because of soaring house prices. Far too many immigrants get free houses and free medicines and benefit money - and do nothing for it - and then if told they have to leave they will first claim political asylum, which takes about 5 years of investigating before the government decides they are actually NOT at risk if they return to their country, and then they disappear into their local muslim or islamic (or whatever) community and they cannot be traced again. Meanwhile they have brought into the country their parents, wives, children, siblings, in-laws and various other 'relatives', all of whom are claiming benefits and all of whom need to be investigated to see if they too are 'at risk' if deported! Often their countries are poor, but not war-torn. You see, why would they want to return to huts and starvation when all their needs are met here ....and for free? When - eventually - the immigration people DO catch up with them, they immediately appeal to the media for support in staying here. They ask: How can we be so cruel as to make them return? Even though they are here illegally! And even though we are at saturation point and will soon be unable to support our population with enough food or homes. Already we can no longer support our own pensioners or continue to give them pensions. Even though they fought poverty and hardship and loss of friends and family during wartime, to keep us "Free"!
I'm sorry this is a very biased piece, but I do feel that our needs are being swept under the carpet for the sake of "political correctness"! In fact I do agree with political correctness...but I feel this situation has become absurd! And the kicker to this whole situation is that many of these immigrants have stated that if there were a war between their counties and our country - then they would fight against us and even work undercover against our country! Eg, bombs on the Underground! And, further, if our country went to war against another country (but not theirs) they would refuse to take up arms and support our soldiers in any conflict - yet they would continue to be supported by us!
Yet if we were to go to their country then we would have to live by their rules, wear clothing they dictate, attend schools they run! God forbid that you should try to open a school in another faith...they'd shoot first and not bother with any questions!
Sorry for the rant....I am just so FED UP with PC! As PC protects every other nationality in our country...but NOT our own!!

On the whole I agreee with everything that has been said.
Come to our countries, learn our language, revel in the freedom of speech, enjoy the better standard of living provided you work for it, contribute to the wealth of our countries, integrate into OUR society (you chose to come here) etc. etc. and don't try and change us or impose your culture on us.
If any one remembers the Vietnamese 'boat people' in the 60s/70s, they came to the UK and were immediately assimilated into the community. A shining example to those who are coming to our countries at the moment.

Merry Christmas and happy Hanukah. I think this is an example of how it can work. Most Jews are very accepting of the celebration of Christmas. More and more Christians are accepting the celebration of Hanukah. Neither is making a lot of noise about the other. There seems to be a mutual respect for each custom and acceptance of both as a part of American culture.

I have always said "Merry Christmas", and I will continue to do so. I have never said "Happy Hanukah" and will continue not to.

Maybe "happy holiday" would fit all.

That's my point I think. Neither is required and neither one is unacceptable. We should be accepting customs of others such as Hanukah, rather than finding ways to exclude them, as so many are trying to do with Christmas. I agree that Christmas is what most Americans celebrate and it is offensive and very wrong for a very small minority to try to stop it. That they are trying to stop Christians from celebrating Christmas isn't as disturbing as the fact that they are being taken seriously.

Ya know, I am a pretty good egg. I really don't care what religion anyone is, color of their skin, what they wear, who they sleep with - whatever. What is important to me is how you treat your family, your neighbors, and your community.
If you don't want to pray, fine, don't. If you don't want your kids to say the Pledge of Allegiance, fine, they can sit out and not participate. But why can't my kid say it if he wants to?
I am greatly bothered by people who come here and expect me to learn their language to communicate with them. And I don't understand young people who wear pants that are so big they have to bend over backwards to get to the wallet in their back pockets. ON PURPOSE!! (Well, at least one knows, or hopes beyond hope, that these young people have on clean underwear!)
