What's going on in Canada?
About a month ago, 40% of the electorate voted for the Conservative Party, a socially conservative party that had previously been in power as a minority government for five years. With the threat of an election at almost any time, Stephen Harper kept his U.S. style Teabagger wannabes on a short leash during that time. Given that there are now five parties holding seats in the Canadian parliament, the Conservatives have a majority government with their 40% vote share, and can put through any neocon legislation they want. Ms. DePape, through the naivety of youth, staged a gutsy yet futile demonstration during the reading of the Throne Speech (where the government announces it's objectives for the parliamentry session).
As much as I adore her for her move, it was useless. Harper managed to bamboozle enough voters to get his majority, and begin to implement his American style of conservatism . :yh_sad

Similasr to is then. 60% of the electorate oppose what he wants to do but are effectively franchised. For the past thirty years we have had governments that might have the majority of seats bit th vast majority of nvoters activekt vote against them. It's spmething i can't forgive nick clegg for, the best chance we've had for eleftoral reform and he completely blew it.
