7 UN workers killed in Afghanistan because murderers were looking for someone to kill.

Murders were blamed on some pastor burning a Koran because it was a convenient excuse.

Some pastor burned a Koran because he's an idiot.

Agree and disagree. I heard about this Koran burning on the radio a few days ago and I had a strong feeling something would happen. I don't think there was any Americans in the UN complex, I heard they were Swedes and Norwegians.

Anyway I don't think in the larger context it matters, Muslims in the ME are rightly pissed off in general as we all know. The occupation of Iraq and Afghanistan and the fact that most westerners consider Muslim lives cheap so long as we have cheap gas and all the accoutrements necessary for our lifestyles.

I'm not going to blame Muslims in general, I think the people of the west should live in fear considering the past and current times/events. As for Pastor Terry, he should be kicked out of the back of a C-5 with a parachute into the Afghan desert. Stupidity should be painful. As for the people who murdered the UN workers they should be punished also but there is the problem of the Afghanistan we have now.

This is all a bunch of BS. Religion sucks.

That, if you'll pardon my saying so, is even worse. Holding the practitioners of a given religion cheap is one thing - they can, after all, change their religion. Holding Arabs cheap is... I'm trying to think of a suitable word. Zionist.

Just like any colonist societies, they have what we want, and what they have is more important than them.

That'll be news to the iranians then, they don't seem to know they are not really pissed off at the west because apparently it's only arab muslims that have a grievance. Hopefully the politicians in washington do realise iran is not actually an arab state even if your media might not. I suspect you probably know that as well but just forgot for a moment. Come to that they are not too happy with their arab neighbours, especialy those in Saudi arabia who are currently help suppress their co-religionists in Bahrain.

How can you possibly say that some very pissed off Muslims reacting to the burning the the Koran is not religious?

How can you possible equate the burning of a flag with the burning of the Koran?

Islam is six hundred and twenty five years less advanced than Christianity so try looking at the levels of fanaticism within Christianity six hundred and twenty five years ago, or even three hundred and fiffty years ago, and you will find far more extreme reaction to such provocation. Add to the the very specific statements by GWB then this was a religious crusade and I do not see how you can divorce the burning of the Koran by an American Pastor from religion.

I think the good pastor should be brought up on charges of aiding the Taliban. Perhaps manslaughter charges too as his actions did cause deaths. This applies to his accomplices also.

He highlights the mentality of people who want to be preachers and have control of followers. He's found a way to make himself feel important and powerful. It's the same for all religions of a fundamentalist nature, they want power on earth and it has very little to do with religion imo.

What I don't understand in that is which religion you feel he represents. You call it an organized religion, you say it's a religion of a fundamentalist nature but Pastor Jones is notoriously working on his own. He represents no organized religion at all. He represents only himself and a couple of dozen of ragtag camp followers in a tin shack.

I wasn't referring to any religion in particular but to the kind of people to whom religious extremes appeal and who set themselves up as religious preachers in all kinds of religions and have a mind set that leads them to extremes of intolerance. Were he born in afghanistan he would probably be an islamic preacher burning the bible. He has more in common with the taliban than he wouild like to admit. Biblekoran thumping fire -eaters that wants to call the tune on how everybidy nehaves and worships. It crosses all cultures and religions you find them everywhere.

Presumably he represents the christian church, although according to the catholic church a protestant can't be a true christian having wandered away from mother church, he could be a baptist but which kind? Seveth day, southern baptist but they're not christian according to presbytarians and best not mention the anglicans cos they are in the process of splitting in two when they're not rejoining the catholic church and then there are the happy clappies - as the pentecostals are known as in my neck of the woods - and after a few pints we can all speak in tongues, projectile vomit and call to the lord with the best of them.

I left it out deliberately because it was a comment about religion in general. You're showing something of the same kind of mentality. He's burning the book because he believes his religion and his version of it is the "right" one.

You seem to imply your version of religion is organized and therfore correct while his is not one of the fomally organizes ones, therefore flawed, and that's why he behaved in that way. It's like it's because he's the wrong kind of baptist or the wrong kind of presbytarian.

Whatever happened to all that christian tolerance and brotherly love? It's like it lasted from the last supper to breakfast the next day when the disciples started arguing about which side of the toast should be buttered.

The Church of England is so tolerant it elected a Druid as Archbishop of Canterbury.

I reserve my brotherly love and tolerance for non-Christians, it only extends so far, there's a limit to what I can manage.
