Why is it that, after carefully selecting Forum > Politics > Current Events the system places your new thread into Forum > General Forums > Current Events?

The admin panel which sets up the navigation has a screwed entry. I could, if you feel I ought, mend it.

Well no - don't fix what nobody's using, that's my motto. You think I should?

It's not obvious, how to mend it.

If you look at the way the URLs are composed, every leaf forum is the only one to get a mention. So, for example, the "Problems, Solutions & Feedback" subforum "Threads containing hotlinks" is addressed as forumgarden.com/forums/threads-containing-hotlinks/. The consequence when "General Forums" and "Politics" both have a subforum called "Current Events" is that both link to forumgarden.com/forums/current-events/ and only the first is accessed when you click on a thread.

"Politics" / "Current Events" has a half dozen subforums. I think if I rename "Politics" / "Current Events" to "Politics" / "Current Political Events" that will open up a new space we've never posted in before, forumgarden.com/forums/current-political-events/ and it will be empty. How does that sound as a solution?

I'd assumed that that was the problem and a change of name would be necessary. It would be nice to move the recent obviously political threads into the new space as a starter.

Okay, I've done it. It's filtered the items which were originally posted into it, maybe. Any external links to any of those threads now in Politics / Current Political Events is quite likely broken, and google will re-index them. It's all a bit major but so long as it works I don't mind the temporary disruption because I don't think anyone will actually notice.

Tell me if it's done what you wanted.

I'm kind of of the mind lately that everything should just be General Chit Chat and people should title their threads clearly.

But I'm not sure my mind is a good advisor.

A good filing system is always useful. Whilst those of us who are here regularly see all of the threads go through, newbies and occasional users need a way to be selective in checking out older threads without wading through evaluating every thread title for interest.

Yes, it's a good idea if something gets posted where you intend it to be.

I was kind of hoping to double up the topic to query whether or not we have too many forums.
