I think what you're actually opposing is the competitiveness of a two party system, though I'm pretty certain you'd appreciate more variety. They're not necessarily dependent on each other you know, variety and competition.
I don't like them arguing about how they're going to grow the bloated gov't rather than if it should be done at all. Variety without competition is fine by me. I'm not sure how we'd pick our representatives, though.

The herd mentality that they are beginning to develop, however will probably be the death of the Homo Sapiens Sapiens.Nah, we've always been social animals. We just aren't hardwired to be a herd of hundreds of millions; only probably a dozen or two.

What bothers me is the extreme divisiveness in politics lately... you aren't a "real American" if you belong to the opposing party, etc. It makes it feel like someone that disagrees with you politically is the enemy.

We should all regard diplomacy as an ideal worth aiming for. Always treat your enemy as if he will one day be your friend - that sort of thing. Lord knows I do my bit but it's a sorry world we live in.

Unfortunately, American culture doesn't encourage diplomacy in daily life, here it's mostly a philosophy of dog-eat-dog. At least that's how I've interpreted things. Nearly everything in America is defined in some sort of war term.
