It just adds to my doubt of who really wants peace. I think the nutters in SK have way too much power. I do know the LAST THING America needs is another war. This provocation is just stupid and it's not going to be the last.

The South had to do something independent of the US in order to show their people they aren't a bunch of wusses.

I think the only way I could come to a view on the genuine state of North Korean society is to actually go there and find out, there's sixty years of frothing Western propaganda which is, I assume, just as biased and untruthful and inaccurate as that which the West unleashed on Cuba.

Korea should be allowed to reunify and hold democratic elections with foreign observers able to confirm the election result.

One aspect of reunification should be the complete withdrawal of foreign troops.

As for the current Southern provocation (and last week's resignation by the defence minister, which seems to have slipped by unnoticed) and the deliberate refusal of the North to respond to the goading, well done North Korea. When someone says jump, refuse to jump. I'm pleased they had the wit to react that way.

What crap it is though. SK is not independent of the US, we're always there in the wings just as with this exercise. It's interesting to note that the peace treaty between the 2 cannot be signed without the approval of the US. I want to say that I am not exactly clear on what role the US plays in this process but I do think we have no real want for peace in the region. SK really needs to get its nutjobs in check, there are paramilitaries in that country that in the past have threatened stability. The majority of normal people of SK want reunification and peace, a small radical minority (with US support I suspect) does not. Were the SK government to even come close to ending this I have no doubt there would be a coup.

I think you're right. I've been to Russia so many times and seen so many places there over a long period of time it gives me a good yard stick to judge what I see. There is a lot available on the internet IF you use foreign sources. The western media is by default completely distorted in the "whys" of this problem.

Just by watching videos of life in NK and seeing a lot of pictures you can tell that times are tough but not as tough as you would be lead to believe. They're making it, albeit with a few problems. I can imagine that's what is so galling to the west.

As of late NK and China are doing much more business and NK is making changes all across the board when it comes to internal and external commerce, it's a market with tremendous potential demand. And guess who's going to miss out? Mainly US allies. I find that very interesting and ironic.

As for the current Southern provocation (and last week's resignation by the defence minister, which seems to have slipped by unnoticed) and the deliberate refusal of the North to respond to the goading, well done North Korea. This is exactly what I would have done, this time. Let the truth come out.

There is great potential for conflict in the region. It's really all the US can do, we can't compete any other way. I would not be surprised if we have a major war with millions killed.

That's right. And we don't want another war. A war with North Korea means a war with China. And if that happens, the draft is coming back. And if that happens, 50% of you able bodied men are already dead. So kiss your wives and children a goodnight tonight because you may not have many nights left to do that. And I hope you like the idea of another man stepping in to raise your children with your wives after you die because who can blame them for looking for romance elsewhere after everything settles? There will be mass casualties in a war like this. So the best you can do is make sure it doesn't happen.

The next step. There will be a strengthening of the US presence all around China. More troops planes, everything.
