Perhaps this is a counterpoint to Betty's thread :wah:
I love the smell of frying onions and basmati rice.
oh, add feta cheese to that.
Why do onions smell so darn good when they're cooking and so crazy bad when they're being cut fresh?

My guess is the fresh onion's tearing smell evolved to protect it.
I'm a real sucker for pleasant smells, my sense of smell is very sensitive.
Musk is by far my favorite, I think.

Good smells
I was walking to the orientation building at work to take pictures of the new-hires for the day and I noticed some green bushes by the building. I noticed them by smell first. They smelled exactly like the bushes at my grandparents house in Maryland long ago. I don't know what kind of bushes they are. It was a pleasant smell with sweet memories.

Ah... for me it's fresh mown grass on a cool summer day.
That, and the smell of chlorine at a sunny poolside.

"Chlorine at a sunny poolside." ?
Sounds like "Napalm in the morning" ?
How about a freshly bathed baby, rain on a sunny day or distant wood smoke on an autumn breeze.

I thought I knew more than this until I opened my mouth

I love the smell of growing mint when you brush past it. A flower garden in bloom is always a delight for the senses. The smell of a fruit cake baking in the oven. The coffee shops that grind their own coffee. The list could go on forever.

I found the name of the bush. I asked the "yard guy" at work. Here it is:

This sounds weird, but I love the smell of Lysol gel toilet cleaner and PineSol.

It must smell pretty good. I drank a bunch when I was a toddler. That probably explains a lot.

I stuck a frozen orange juice can to my lips. The results were undesirable.

Win some and lose some. Thinking of the thread topic... it still cracks me up how many times you can say "eeeeewwww, this smells disgusting!" and other people will lean over to see if they agree. I'm always in the "I'll take your word for it" camp.
