BP is smart to take a chance on it also, the potential wealth of the Kara Sea and its proximity to the White Sea ports and the gas fields to the south in the northern Urals makes development of almost the entire north coast of European Russia a possibility in this next century.

US Congresspersons will, one hopes, eventually realize they might as well boil their heads as call for a review of the deal by US regulators, it's none of their business. It's outside their remit. Their jurisdiction doesn't extend there. If they finally get that message perhaps they can pass it on to the Pentagon too.

This deal concerns basically the Kara Sea basin. it's Russian turf. What is disputed is further north towards the pole. Archangelsk, Komi, Nenetsia and Yamalia are the oblasts on the northern coast of Russia that will benefit most as their infrastructures will get the biggest boosts. The Kara sea basin is basically a stones throw from all of these places. Check it out on Google Earth.
Even if the area can be disputed for some reason just what is anyone going to do about it? I'm sure the Swedes, Finns and Norwegians will. If Canada is smart about it and can keep the defense minister from peeing all over himself every time a recon Bear comes within 1000 miles of Hudson Bay you might be able to benefit from it also.
