"Sad Eyes"
(Robert John Pedrick)
Looks like it's over, you knew I couldn't stay
She's comin' home today
We had a good thing, I'll miss your sweet love
Why must you look at me that way
It's over
Sad eyes, turn the other way
I don't wanna see you cry
Sad eyes, you knew there'd come a day
When we would have to say 'goodbye'
Try to remember the magic that we shared
In time your broken heart will mend
I never used you, you knew I really cared
I hate to see it have to end
But it's over
Sad eyes, turn the other way
I don't wanna see you cry
Sad eyes, you knew there'd come a day
When we would have to say 'goodbye'
[Instrumental Interlude]

I don't wanna see you cry (cry, cry, cry)
Sad eyes, you knew there'd come a day (he-e-e-ey)

I was in the fifth grade. For our Christmas assembly, our Music teacher had our class sing this wonderful unusual Christmas song. With the musical instruments, all of us in harmony, and the fun.........this was an unforgettable experience.

Recipe for Christmas All Year Long
Take a heap of child-like wonder
That opens up our eyes
To the unexpected gifts in life—
Each day a sweet surprise.
Mix in fond appreciation
For the people whom we know;
Like festive Christmas candles,
Each one has a special glow.
Add some giggles and some laughter,
A dash of Christmas food,
(Amazing how a piece of pie
Improves our attitude!)
Stir it all with human kindness;
Wrap it up in love and peace,
Decorate with optimism, and
Our joy will never cease.
If we use this healthy recipe,
We know we will remember
To be in the Christmas spirit,
Even when it's not December.

Lovely, Gill.
I sometimes think we expect too much of Christmas Day. We try to crowd into it the long arrears of kindliness and humanity of the whole year. As for me, I like to take my Christmas a little at a time, all through the year. And thus I drift along into the holidays--let them overtake me unexpectedly--waking up some fine morning and suddenly saying to myself: 'Why this is Christmas Day!'"
~ Ray Stannard Baker, pseud. David Grayson (1870-1946), American author, journalist.

I think I must do that really, as I get little pressies for people for no special occasion. Just because I felt like doing it ! I think they are much nicer when they arrive out-of-the-blue and totally unexpected. It's good to see somebody's face light up and a genuine smile spread across their face with the surprise of it all ! :-6 :yh_bigsmi

That's exactly why I enjoy giving gifts....so I like to put a little thought into my gift-giving. "What would this person really like?" I don't get to see some family members responses to the gifts I have to send in the mail because they live far away from me. So I do miss out.

I've been going through my photo albums, and found some Christmas pictures of my children from years ago. I scanned and saved them and I'll post them here. I'll bet many of you have photos like these of your children.

AFTR's Daily Commute
Today, the day after Christmas, it is snowing outside. Big flakes are falling in the wind now. I don't know if it will stick to the ground, but I do like to watch them fall. Winter, alas, is here.
This was a special Christmas for me. I got to spend some time with my daughter and younger son. They had been living in North Dakota for several years and recently moved back to Georgia. My daughter-in-law posted a Christmas photo of my grandchildren on FB. Spending Christmas with Hubby is always special and sweet. :-4
The decorations, the music, the gifts are only a background to what Christmas is all about. It's about the people you love, and love you back.

So true. That's why my Christmas was wonderful. My heart breaks for families who don't get along or who can't be together.

"From Heaven I fall, though from earth I begin.
No lady alive can show such a skin.
I'm bright as an angel, and light as a feather,
But heavy and dark, when you squeeze me together.
Though candor and truth in my aspect I bear,
Yet many poor creatures I help to insnare.
Though so much of Heaven appears in my make,
The foulest impressions I easily take.
My parent and I produce one another,
The mother the daughter, the daughter the mother."
- James Parton, A Riddle - On Snow

Evidently, this is still a problem. We must let the powers-that-be know. We must demand satisfaction. Immediately. Perhaps FG can help us. He's the man!
I do get kinda lonesome here on AFTR's Daily Commute thread when my buddies can't come to visit.

This is a test. I took the advice to make a change to my general settings here at FG so that I could upload some more photos and pictures again. It seems to have worked.
Thank you, FG. You ARE the man!
Below are two photos I took earlier of some trees in our backyard...trees laden with ice. The other picture is an unusual depiction of winter. Here, in SE Georgia, we still have seen alot of falling leaves dancing in the wind.

Hi Diana,
Lovely trees, but what are those white items on the 3rd tree that look like 'Christmas" ornaments? Are they birds??

Glad you asked.........They are gourds that Hubby hangs up high in a post. They are for the martins when they come our way, sometimes as early as February. Hubby puts a hole in them and empties them so the birds can nest inside.

Hey Diana,

Love the gourds...wonderful idea. How does hubby reach up so high...is there a pully of some sort?
Is this the same picture I saw yesterday?? Looks different. Thought I saw the gourds on the tree branches...oh well...maybe I was still sleepy:wah:
