How is it that people whose job it is to see justice done acted so unjustly?
Yay, Canada.
I hope they all get fired and sued. That young woman deserves massive compensation... direct from the guilty, not from the taxpayers who are also victims of public servants we can't trust.
eta: summary, they wrongfully arrested a young black woman, kneed her to the ground and cut off her shirt and bra with scissors.

Police have way too much power and authority. Not only do some of them cover up their screw up like this, many also lie under oath constantly.

They should all be forced to strip down and be given a sign to wear that states 'this is what i did to another human being'

There are so many charges that could be laid against police in this case. Right from the start, they falsified charges claiming she had a bottle of booze with her that doesn't exist.

I think this is a definite case to have the officers involved removed from the force.

Disgusting to say the least what a brutal assault on this women. Five armed police to 1 petite women who did nothing to provoke such a response. I hope they all get fired for starters and are brought up on charges as well.
ALOHA!!

Have these folks been arrested? If not, why not? She was arrested on a lot less evidence, IMO

Cops are getting a little out of hand as of late. I agree. On the other hand I remember a cop who was not abusive or aggressive in a bad situation and ended up getting 5 rounds point blank in the face. He died for his political correctness. It's a tough line to walk.

yeah, there is no 'other hand' in this case.
They were pissed that she questioned them and it escalated. Other cops may die in other circumstances but none of these police officers was ever at risk. The woman got kicked because they were already roughing the girl up and she was struggling while her head was being yanked back.

This case highlighted here is the other side of the coin. It goes without saying that the majority of the people who serve to police our societies are upstanding policemen and do a damned good job. However, it is an unfortunate fact that there is a minority who do the opposite and take advantage of their position for their own purposes. It is this latter group that give the forces a bad name and lower the public's confidence in the police force. And it is not long ago that an English member on this forum was subjected to this kind of abuse leading to a vile hounding for no other reason than revenge. In the latter case, the officer involved was removed from the force though the hounding of our member on FG occurred afterwards.
If our police officers do not respect and uphold the laws of society, how can good citizens have faith in them. Without a police force we can trust, we go backwards to a society that carries weapons all the time.

It's called "contempt of cop" I believe. It seems to me cops are being trained or developing a mindset on their own that the people they make contact with have to be submissive. To question them or their actions is disrespectful of them and the law. I am in full agreement with you and I think it is becoming more common. A good cop would have walked away after he checked her paper regardless of what she said.

I've had limited positive interaction with police. They are a respectable community who don't deserve respect solely because they belong to that community. Much like not all doctors should be listened to because they are doctors and not all parents deserve respect. Much like judges can be the type of people who like to condemn other people and lots of security guards are wanna-be cops who, for one reason or another, can't get a badge.
More than this being just an instance of abuse of authority, this seems to be an instance of mob rule, where one officer started escalating and the others ganged in. I wonder if they were "beat down" in questioning the way they would interrogate a criminal, if the cops involved would name who started the escalation.

I have only had 2 bad situations with American cops, both times the cops walked away. They were both older men probably in their 50s. I have had many encounters with Russian police (city, interior and FSB) none of which resulted in anything like this. The one time we did have a bad situation I was almost arrested, it turned out to simply be bad language skills and my lack of knowledge of who is who over there. My guide came back from her shopping trip (90 minutes late!!!) just before they were going to take me to the jail, just to be safe.
I learned in that incident that you don't sit in front of court houses that have been recently shot up by the local mob, I learned that youngsters with green/gold epaulets on their shoulders are FSB cadets, not security guards and you do as they say. You keep cool when a big black Volga pulls up and 4 old men in long leather jackets get out and start asking you questions and sizing you up. You answer the questions as best you can and you COOPERATE until your minder is done shopping, shows up and solves the problem. I'll tell you what, we were all getting tired of looking at one another when she finally showed up. 2 sentences and all was well.
Even in the worst situations all will go well if you keep your cool. And you have nothing to hide.
