I'm so cheap I heat my apartment with the oven because, though I have a gas fireplace, I pay for gas but not hydro.

I'm so cheap I haven't bought new clothes for years and get my friends to donate their old clothes to me so I can make new clothes out of them on the sewing machine.

I'm so cheap I have a swiffer but use an old face cloth soaked in dishsoap water on the end of it instead of buying the wet mop pads.

CHEAP. now like i have read in the past entries here. thrifty, is a more softer word. Plus you can also say about a woman's appearance. That she looks like a CHEAP FLOOZIES. Which has nothing to do with COST. So there is many terms and meanings. But i am THRIFTY. Not because i want to, I HAVE TO.:D

I'm so cheap I spray my bike brakes with WD40 instead of getting it serviced when it squeals. If I don't post for a few days, you'll know what happened. :wah:

Okay. I didn't do the WD40... I just let them squeek.

AUTHORITY ZERO (partial) LYRICS

"Talk Is Cheap"

You talk and talk's so cheap

You're finally cashing in

With your words so sleek

The truth is wearing thin

You're coming to me

Please tell me this is a joke

I've heard you spitting lies

Since the first word you spoke

You talk and talk's so cheap

You're finally cashing in

With your words so sleek

The truth is wearing thin

You're coming to me

Please tell me this is a joke

I've heard you spitting lies

Since the first word you spoke

We have a wonderful 99 cents store that sells produce and food items. The produce is great, broccoli, cauliflower, romaine, potatoes, onions, etc. & a lot of fruits. They also have eggs, butter, milk, etc. And nothing is more than 99 cents. It's great.

Sounds like a great place to shop and to help with the budget, Zap. Do you have to bag your own purchases? Some places do.

We had a store like that. Now you are lucky to find anything there that is still 99 cents.

They bag the groceries & purchases. We Have a Food For Less (Kroger) where you have to bag your own. This place is great. I go home with 2-3 big heads of cauliflower, the same for broccoli, carrots, potatoes (just the 5lb. size) a dozen eggs, onions, bananas, blackberries, raspberries, apples, etc. for under $20. This is the only so-called dollar store that I've found like this. Well, San Diego has them also.

Peg, I know the kind of store you're talking about. My mother used to go to one and you're right, there were very few items for $1. I refuse to go to them. But this is the only one I've found that has good food items too. And 99 cents. Some things 2 for 99 cents.

If you really really want to save money, I can share my deepest cheapest secrets with you.

Don't dry your clothes in the clothes dryer. Hang them dry. My scrubs only take two hours hanging, to dry, and by the time I get to work, my body heat has smoothed most of the wrinkles out. Sheets take a half a day. Socks take longer. I lay them out on an old wire shoe rack. Towels take a couple of days. I save at least $50/month on electric when I do this faithfully. I iron most of my clothes anyway.

I have to use fragrance free shampoo, laundry detergent and dishsoap. When I find Suave clarifying shampoo on sale, for a dollar or less, I stock up. I use it interchangeably in wash, dishes, and as shampoo.

Add some baking soda to the wash and it will boost it.

Add a drop of sudsy ammonia to the suds, and your dishes will shine.

Use it plain in your hair, and it will remove build up from other stylng products.

Also, when Suave clear conditioner is on sale, I buy it all. Because - I use it for fabric softener. I soak the clothes for a while, and they come as soft as they do with the expensive scented fab softener.

I use a lot of bicarb soda for many applications, I even bought a book and use a lot of tips from it. Bicarb is quite cheap, here its about $1.45 for 500 grams but I was going through heaps so I bought a 25kg bag for $12 at an agricultural warehouse and it worked out cheaper and it's going to last me ages!

A few of the tips I use are:

I fill up a shaker I have previously bought full of carpet deodorising powder with bicarb and as a few drops of strawberry oil burner oil and shake it through and use it as a pre-vacuum carpet powder. It absorbs odours and leaves the room smelling great.

I also mix it to a paste with a little water and scrub carpet, upholstery and car upholstery stains. Once you've had a good scrub, leave to dry then vacuum up. Works well, I have a 3 yo son, so I've used it quite a bit :wah:

Mix to a paste and use as a facial scrub, makes your face sooo lovely and smooth, scrub your hands too and they feel awesome.

I also place a small bowl of dry bicarb in my microwave when I'm not using it and it absorbs the smells of food.

I have heaps more if anyone's interested. I love the stuff! :wah:

Another cheapy hint I have is my miracle cure-all for kids. H2O cream, I have a small container of water in the bathroom and when my son hurts himself I apply some of my 'H2O' cream with a cotton ball and it's all better! Yeah...sneaky! And cheaper than cream or bandaids.
