Halloween

Post by dchistoryman »

When did we start doing this in the UK?

My Nieces and Nephews were far more excited about it than Guy Fawkes night. OK I understand the sweets are a big draw but I don't remember it being such a big thing say even 15 years ago.

I have to say I have had some memorable halloweens in Washington DC and one fantastic one in Austin TX.

The first one I celebrated in DC was a real eye opener. My neighbour asked me in the afternoon if I had got plenty of candy, realising I had no idea what I was in for she took me to the local store and we purchsed about $100 worth, by 9 o'clock I had run out it was unbelievable. In later years a few of us used to have a cook out in the front yards, chilli, beers etc and made a whole night of it.
