The whole Idea behind the operation Is to assist the Police In every way we can.

I have already taken 4 phone calls and the article has only just hit the news stands.

Many people who suffer from Anti-Social-Behaviour and feel they are being targeted are reluctant to call the police for fear of reprisals.

Due to this, they do not get offered the Victem support that the Police offer.

This Is an opportunity for any-one who is suffering and reluctant to call In the police, to talk to a human being In confidence who will report back to the Police for them although we do strive to encourage sufferers to call the Police them-selves.

so what will be your exact roles then? and what are you allowed to do if anything when patrolling streets? at the other estate i lived they got street wardens, paid for ,, not sure who by ,,, they could do nothing and the troublemakers knew it. They did try hard to befriend and get to know a lot of the kids hanging around as majority were ok really and just hanging round as nothing much else to do.

Our problem here Is mass building on Greenbelt. 12,000 new homes approx have gone up In the last 10 years leaving very little activities for the Teenagers except hang around local shops.

The Primary aim Is to elect an action Committee who can be 'the ears and eyes' where the under-manned local Police can not be every-where all of the time. The aim is not to Intervene in ASB but to log Incidents and report to the Police so they have a far wider vision of trouble spots and act accordingly In the future.

I would agree with you Kaz, except for one of my Ward Councillors going to a great deal of time, trouble and money to set up a youth club In one of our area's and no child over the age of 12 years old turned up.

ever?.. what was available there.. if it sounds too schoolish they wont,, and if its full of little kids they wont:thinking:.. its obvious though that some teens just want to hang with their mates really ,, and are not out to cause trouble.. but a large group can look intimidating:(

No... not one single teenager over 12 years old and he did get equipment that he thought would appeal such as pool tables etc.

I remember one Boxing Day when groups of teenagers were out In the pouring rain on the war memorial. We took the opportunity to ask what they wanted In their community and one said 'We just want some-where to go'. We thought 'Ah, now we are getting some-where' but this was quickly followed up with 'Yeah but It's got to be some-where where the Police can't come In'..... oh well !!!

Thank You for the private messages and E mails wishing me well In this project.

Also Thanks to the reporter who got this printed for me.

We have looked at schemes In other area's for some time where Marshalls over-see trouble spots and they appear to have had a great deal of success.

The calls have been coming In tonight and I am heartened at the response but then again disheartened to hear of so many blighted by Anti-Social-Behaviour.

One chap was a little put out that I had not Included his village but this Is a good sign that we can extend the project to a further area.

I have also been talking to people who like the Idea of having a committee member In their village that they can report back to as because It was pointed out to me tonight also, some people do not report to the Police because they fear the 'crime' Is too trivial.

I am very excited at the way things are going and The reporter will be at the meeting to report on how things went.

You are really doing well Oscar ! I think you have landed yourself with a lot of work though, but of course, I expect you will acquire some regular administration assistance.

If people are as keen as they sound, then the idea should develop into a good working organisation. I think the secret will be to spread the load amongst many people, so that there isn't just one or two doing all the organising and work, because that is when those with it all to do will tire of it and pack it in. But with you at the helm, I'm sure this idea will mushroom into something very workable and successful.

Also, the big thing, and the thing that will make or break an organisation, is regular publicity! But of course you know the power of publicity already ! :yh_wink

Anyway, Oscar, power to your elbow, and I wish you every success in this venture.

Thank You Kindly Gill.

Yes, Publicity helps :sneaky:

I already have some key figures willing to share the work-load because I quite agree with which you have said.

The first task Is to appoint a Committee of members from each village who can spare a few hours a week to collate Imfo coming In. Then we can regually get together and build the bigger picture. Also some volunteers who will be able to offer support and advice to any-one who believes they are being targeted.

I am sure my dear friend who is the Conservative MP for my area will be able to attend. Put It this way... If he wants all those leaflets delivered, he had better :wah:

:sneaky:

If we can offer support where we can and assure folk that they are not alone, It will be some-thing. If we can assist the Police In identifying hot-spots, all the better.

this is always the hardest part.. recruiting volunteers. It gets harder as time goes on too as people realise what a thankless task it is:thinking:

You are right there. I will not name name's but one shop In the village has the attitude of 'leave It to some-one else' and will not even call Police when youths are kicking off In their store. Their argument Is that Police take too long to respond and the youths are long gone by the time they get there. That Is true more often than not but I am sick of trying to explain to them that the local Force can not ask for Dispersal Orders or extra man-power If the calls do not warrant It.

People do tend to turn a blind eye until It Is their car damaged, their wife abused In the local shops etc etc, then suddenly you hear ... 'Some-body ought to do some-thing'.. And that 'some-body' Is 'some-body' other than them-selves. I am afraid we live In a very selfish world where Community Spirit to some only applies when they want things done.

yes and when you and others step up to do your bit,, you will get complaints of how badly you do it,, or why you didnt do so and so,, or how quickly or which way,, bla bla bla , they are good at telling you which way you should be doing it,, but ask them to have a go and they aint got time!

the shop owners have become despondant and given up even expecting any help by the sound of it. I have felt like that at times too.

With this store... I went to their head office and Insisted they needed security on the doors at certain times. They came back and said that what the youths pilfer does not match the wages of security. I was pretty disgusted with their attitude really because It is a very small village and I know that some folk just will not shop there because they do not want to run the gauntlet of a large gathering of youths outside every night. When some-one has to drive half a mile to another store to get a pint of milk, that Is totally wrong and this needs to be reversed.

( just dont ask for a contribution ) I would expect nothing else from you Andy:-4:wah:

Here Is my take on ASB ( Anti Social Behaviour ):

I was a normal Teenager who fell out of bars and clubs drunk In the small hours as many Teenagers do these days. The difference was, I knew that If I got loud and woke up the neighbourhood, I would be arrested for Breach Of the Peace. If I was to get abusive In the street, I would be arrested for Drunk and Disorderly. If I got stroppy, I would be arrested for Threatening Behaviour. If I urinated on the war memorial, I would be arrested for outraging Public Decency. If I tried to run a car off the road for 'a laugh' I would be arrested for reckless driving. If I ripped up a residents hanging baskets or damaged their car on my way home, I would be arrested for Criminal damage

Over the past 15 to 20 years, all of this behaviour that goes along with the 24 hour drink Licensing laws, comes under a huge Umbrella labelled Anti-Social Behaviour. It then becomes low priority to Police forces when the truth Is, ASB ruins lives. A recent survey showed that an act of ASB will take place every 2 seconds.

Instead of 'crimes' of ASB being dealt with seperately to each victem, they are labelled as ASB. There Is simply not the man-power on the streets to deter It or deal with the number of complaints.

Just an up-date.

I have just been on the phone for over an hour to one of our Police Force. We discussed many local Issue's and resolutions that we could try but I am delighted that this certain Officer will be at the meeting and will take the questions and answers from residents. He Is going to try to get as many of our locals there to show a good Police presence and I think It will be good PR for them.

Now that Is one committed Police Officer !!!!!!:guitarist:guitarist:guitarist

The success will not be down to me but the Support from Ward Councillor's and the local Police which has been fantastic. We have some blinding Officers around here and I am so pleased they are coming.
