I've been thinking about all those miners trapped in Chile. Alive..thank God...but trapped deep inside the earth.....not for hours or days...but for months. Can you imagine it?

It is hard to imagine, it is so long to be underground.

Kind of puts things into perspective for me. I feel trapped in this cast. I cannot imagine being trapped underground for months. I hope, for their sakes and their families' sake, that they are able to get to them soon than expected.

It's a long time to be underground but they appear to be doing well and each are eating 2000 calories per day. They also sent down nicotine patches and gum to help those that smoked, get through their cravings.

Rescuers are trying to keep 33 miners in Chile alive after they were trapped far under ground, with only a long, 6-inch wide bore hole connecting them with the surface. It may be months before they can be freed. After food and water, what would you want if you were trapped in a mine that could fit through a 6-inch wide hole?

I have yet to see any explanation for why this has happened. There's been plenty of news about the aid being sent to them. But I would like to know why so many people are trapped underground in a situation that will take 3 months to get them out.

With all due respect, the trapped miners may well be calm now, and I have only the media's say so that they are, but unless they have plenty of room to move about in, they will go insane after a couple of weeks.

What's the real take on this?

There's only one blessing these poor chaps have, they are at least used to working so deeply underground, perhaps for many long hours at a stretch.

I doubt there would be many of us who could have coped up till now without any outside contact. Not even confident those at the mine head knew where their exact location underground was, and/or not confident they could in fact be rescued at all.

God bless them.

I saw footage of them on the news and they looked in good spirits .........Quite frankly I'd be scratching at the walls by now. I wonder how they'll be in a months time?

I agree, it has to be helpful to be used to the environment. But I get twitchy in a room full of colleagues 2 hours into any meeting... just cannot imagine this.

So if all goes well and there are no delays, this largest drill could enable the miners to begin their escape Oct. 18.
I can't imagine how trying this has to be on the patience of the miners and their families.

I know being an American if I were to get to see my beloved Fulham FC play I'd be all the more rejuvenated. On that, and also being American, if anyone were to extend upon me this courtesy I'd rather stay.

I wonder how they worked out who gets to go first, and who waits to be last.

any one an hour (estimated) it will take at least a day and a half. But then what's 30 hours, after spending a couple of months down there.

8 miners have been rescued. This rescue has a long way to go yet but how FANTASTIC to see these brave men and their wonderful rescuers live on the TV.

63yr old Mario Gomez is on his way up.
