Got a letter from the hospital and they have said that camerons TSH is too high although his T3 - T4 counts are normal they have said to start him on thyroxine 5 - 10 mcg daily. I really dont know much about hypothyroisism so would appreccate any help in laymans terms preferably.
on a lighter note cameron is trying to crawl so is nearly there.

cameron has to start Thyroxine
They are putting him on 5-10 micrograms per day to correct a thyroid problem. I don't know anything about Camron but I suspect if he is young they are doing it as a growth hormone booster or to take his thyroid down a couple of notches. I am not in the med field so I don't really know except from family experience.

I had my thyroid gland removed two years ago Debbie due to multiple toxic nodules (non-cancerous). I was somewhat hyper instead of hypo. I take 175 mcg daily and do just fine. Hypothyroidism could make Cameron sleepy more than normal and lathargic as well. Type in Hypothyroidism in any Search Engine and you will get lots of data, much of it in laymens terms. Hope Cameron responds well to the meds.

well here goes
Tuesday i took Cameron to have his check up weight
etc... He has dropped down off the average line to just
below now but i cant work out why he weighs 19Ibs 5ozs
and measures 73cms my other son weight 10ibs more at the
same age! not sure what i can do to ensure it doesn't
drop any more (he isn't a very hungry baby)
anyway we had a right to do trying to get his thyroxine
the chemist wanted him to have the syrup but needed the
doctors say so first so i had to wait till Thurday for
his hospital appointment. The doctor has started him on
25mcg of thyroxine daily which is a very low dose
normally they start babies on at least 50mcg but
apparenlty his levels aren't that far off key so they
are going to see how he goes.
I also asked the doctor about his sickness after his
bottles. we changed him off of second milk because of
him being so sick on it and put him on follow on milk
but he is still sick so the doc gave us gaviscon infant
but he is still being sick although not as bad. not sure
what else to do! Any ideas?
so the doctor has given him the thyroxine but has
insisted that he should have the tablets but i dont have
a pill crusher (asked everwhere!) so have had to grind
it between to spoons which is difficult to know if you
have all the pill in the medicine syringe.
anyway he is definately on the verge of crawling and
actually sat himself up from tummy to bum the other day
(Most immpresive) sorry to go on and on.
Hope you are all doing well
