Sleep Depravation

Post by cars »

I find that I am most energenic & awake the next morning after about "6" or so hours sleep. If I sleep much more than that, then I seem to be more tired!

What are the average hours sleep others require not to have sleep Depravation? :-3

Six hours on average, like yourself cars anymore & i feel worse than before i went to bed.

My best sleeps are when i catnap, i can sometimes feel fantastic after a 10 minute nap, opposed to 6 straight hours.

Winston Churchill reputedly never slept, just catnapped 10 mins here & there & he lived to a ripe old age.

I'd much rather have quality than quantity any day. :yh_sleep

It depends on the quality of those hours. I think 6 to 7 hours of good quality sleep beats 12 hours of iffy sleep.

Differnt people have different sleep needs.

I don't function well if I don't get 7 hours.

My work kept me over two days in a row. Before that I was alternating between 4 and 12 hours a day.

After that I spent a year in sleep Dep mode on about 4 hours a day which is not good at all for me.

And the new 12 hour schedule is even more of a challenge to get good sleep.

hi! i live on sleep deprivation...we work 12 hour shifts, and by the third one are legless from exhaustion. so when we get a day off all any of us wants to do is sleep. it's all so uneven and irregular. and often we work our days off as well. so the average workday , or night, i get about 4 hours and wake up tired. i feel the effects deeply, and during the worst of the hurricanes we were activated , not allowed to go home for days, had to "sleep" in the county jail. i ended up in hospital ICU with pneumonia, and i am a very strong healthy person normally. my concern about sleep deprivation is that it can render us unsafe on the job. being alert is of utmost importance. our reward is a three-day weekend sometimes, mine just begun, but i slept all day, too tired to think of Christmas shopping or other errands. maybe tomorrow. oh...they can send a cruiser out to get us to work on our days off too! i don't answer the door, have a mat out there that says "not without a warrant" LOL .... many other deputies that i talk to say they don't feel like Christmas , simply as a result of sleep deprivation.

I usually do best on 6-7 hours of sleep. A half hour nap is more sound than all those hours though.

As a working student, I'm lucky if I can get 5 hours of sleep at night and - let me tell you - this is certainly not enough. By the time Friday rolls around, I am too groggy from a week's worth of too little sleep to do much.

At the moment I'm lucky to get 4-5 hours, I need at least 7-8 hours.

Due to my lack of sleep at the moment my vision is more blurred than normal, my back is stiff and I'm no use for anything.

Sleep.. what is that.. !!!!!!!.. I can function on as little as 4 hours.. ideally 7 hours is what works best for me. Right now, I will be getting about 5 hours a nite until march or so. Then I can become a more normal person.. well, maybe not normal but you catch my drift...

I like 7 or 8 and hopefully that is usually what I get on a good night.

And I wake up with no alarm and have for years.

I do occasionally suffer from insomnia so that is a real pain. I try to do

whatvever I can to avoid the triggers of THAT!! (No caffeine, etc.!)

"my concern about sleep deprivation is that it can render us unsafe on the job" Lady Cop

I am considering writing my congressman on how the 7K need to be modified. Lady Cop are you under the 7K exemption or do you earn overtime/comp if you work over 40 hours in a week. With 7K you have to work over 168 hours in 28 days to earn over time.

I'm also concerned about truck drivers being a safty risk on the road. I am told many log 70 hours but really work over 80. There are also those that log 70 and work 60. I myself tend to get sleepy if I drive over an hour so I would make a poor trucker.

"many other deputies that i talk to say they don't feel like Christmas , simply as a result of sleep deprivation."

My priority for this weekend was to get some sleep. My wife's priority was to decorate the tree. I got more sleep yesterday then in the preceding 3 days but still had to force myself to put up the tree.

I don't know that anyone can understand sleep depervation unless they have fallen victem of it.

One time driving home I started to cross over the lane and Ijust wondered if I would be able to pull back on my lane if someone were comming at me.

So I just meandered to the wrong side of the road till I was all the way off the road and slept.
