In a hurry this morning, so I bought a Young's "Admiral's Pie". "Now with 25% more fish" it says on the box.
Weight 340g (℮). It's a good thing it's not called a "fish pie" - more like a potato pie!
45% potato
(partially reconstituted dried potato 94%, vegetable oil, dextrose, salt, potato starch, wheat flour, floavouring).
Butter Sauce
Water, butter 5%, whey powder, cornflour, wheat flour, seasoning (conteans yeasy, wheat), vegetable fat, skimmed milk powder, parsley, lactose, milk proteins, paprika extract, curcumin, flavourings.
18% Alaskan pollock
2% Cheddar cheese.
340Kcal, 18.36g protein, a good whack of saturated fat and salt.
I suppose it would not sell so well were it called a "Potato, fish, fat and salt pie".
A fish pie.

A fish pie.
The packaging is interesting. See other thread.

I've never understood why half these additional ingredients are there. If its 94% potato anyway, why bother adding anything else but another 6% of potato. What "flavourings" need to be added to potato to make it taste more like potato ?

A fish pie.
Maybe they'll pay heed to Colbert and call it a "Fishiness Pie"?

A fish pie.
They can be. Dribble.
Basically it's fish, mashed spud and white sauce, with a touch of cheese grated onto the top. The dribble factor comes from the choice of fish and herbs. Smoked Haddock makes a very different dish from Cod or Salmon and I recommend tarragon with any of them
