Crazy Conneticut Lady
I just read about this story in the Atlanta Journal and Constitution:
Woman Takes Dog on Trip, Leaves Tot Alone
BLOOMFIELD, Conn. †A woman was arrested Tuesday after she chose to take her poodle with her when she drove her husband to work †but left her 15-month-old grandson unattended at home, police said.
Loretta McGill-White, 48, was charged with risk of injury to a minor.
McGill-White left the toddler unattende:-5 d in a crib, police said. About 40 minutes after police and state child welfare officials arrived at her home, she returned and got out of her car holding the dog, authorities said.
"I think the officers were a little taken aback when she pulled into the driveway with a poodle on her lap," police Capt. Jeffrey Blatter said. "It draws the question of what's more important."
Police said she told them she left briefly to take her husband to work.
McGill-White took temporary custody of the child Monday after the boy's mother was arrested on drug charges. Police were checking on the youngster when they found him alone in the unlocked house.
State child welfare officials took custody of the toddler Tuesday.
If convicted, McGill-White faces between one and 10 years in prison. She was held on $10,000 bond and was scheduled to appear in court Wednesday.:-5 :-5
What was she thinking? Could someone tell me?

That really is a sad state of affairs when one can do such a thing as she did. How anyone can give a dog priority over a child is beyond me.

Sure can, she sees tot asleep in crib thinks tot is safe alone asleep (presuming tot does not awaken) and takes dog so dog won't bark and wake up tot. Simple huh, yep simply stooooopid.

we had a female here who went to jail for 19 days for shoplifting....in the entire 19 days she never told ANYONE that she had a 17 month old at home. she could have told us or called family collect. the kid almost died, drank water and ate dried macaroni. was finally discovered by landlord. the female is in prison now for violation of probation. i cannot use the words i would like to describe her.

LC, are you kidding me? Babies are so helpless and innocent and beautiful, how could anyone do that?
I know it sounds cliche, but my husband and I have been trying to get pregnant for quite some time now, I have been through 3 rounds of reftility drugs, and nothing. It sucks I cant have a baby and scul like this are able to have 1 to 10 children!
:-5
Also, LC, I bet you see some really messed up stuff. Does the force provide counseling in the US?

DGirl it is folks like you that I think of when I hear these horror stories of neglect. Terrible sadness when there are so many people like yourself trying so hard to have children and you read about others who treat them worse than dogs. I do not understand how people can be so heartless.

Thanks for your kind words. I have an "appointment" tonight with my spouse, so everybody, keep your fingers crossed. Maybe I will start a new board for infertility support!
Was it so hard for this woman to put the baby in a car seat? Why couldnt her husband walk to work if it was so close?

I read this story this morning on another board. My heart breaks for that child. She really doesn't stand a chance in this life. Mom in jail on drug charges, grandma nutty as a fruitcake.

Reminds me of a story here recently in MO....woman who had quadruplets (4) 15 month olds and a 3 yr old. She left to take one of the quads to the pediatrician and left the others alone in the trailer. How sad. Well she got busted. She claimed she had to get the baby to the doc fast and wasnt thinking. What the..??

The sad truth of the matter is, these women that gave birth, I cannot call them mothers, will probably get a slap on the wrist and have their kids back in no time at all. :-5
