I can't believe I'm going to admit this in public, but mine was "Air Supply." So, shoot me, I was 14 at the time!!!!

Minks, I'm pretty sure you got that spelling right.

Sam Cooke has a new cd out, being advertised on tv every night. no new tracks just the old ones.

My first was Rescue me....Fontella Bass ....I think that was who sang it.

My mom had a bunch of Tchaikovsky, which I didn't like when I was young, but guess where all of it is now? Yup, in my hot little fists. I love it!

At fourteen I was heavily into T. Rex and Marc Bolan, then at sixteen into Alice Cooper BIG time (frightened the life out of me dear old dad )

HEh Heh Alice Cooper wasn't he one of the original shock rockers...... yeah my brother and I were into his music too and my parents shuddered. Then we switched to KISS ahahaha much better. NOT.

Sam Cooke was only 33 when he died...the piece below shows how much he was revered...

Sam died on December 11, 1964. "At the Mount Sinai Baptist Church in Los Angeles, a crowd of 5,000 persons, some of whom arrived five hours before the scheduled last rites, over-ran facilities designed to accommodate 1,500. In an emotion packed atmosphere, super charged by the singing of Lou Rawls, Bobby Blue Bland and Arthur Lee Simpkins, women fainted, tears ran down men's cheeks and onlookers shouted. Gospel singer Bessy Griffin, who was to appear on the funeral program, became so grief stricken she had to be carried off. Ray Charles stepped in from the audience to sing and play 'Angels Keep Watching Over Me'."

LC...I loved Elvis in the early days...all leather

and wiggly hips. I always loved his music, but

I wasn't so keen on the glitzy costumes with the big collars

Debbie Boone's "You Light Up My Life" single and Andy Gibb's Greatest Hits -- both birthday presents. I remember I was in 2nd grade, and I thought Andy Gibb was cute.

Then later on, it was Olivia Newton-John's "Physical" album.

The first records I ever owned were actually my mom's and dad's that ended up with me. I confiscated their Elvis album collection and played them to no end. I got on their nerves, I'm sure. :guitarist

The first record I ever bought was a 45 RPM (the one with the big hole in the middle), of Dave Brubeck (piano) and a second one of of Stan Getz on tenor sax. this would have been 1954.

Last train to Clarksville by the monkees, then I brought the LP which had "Daydream Believer" on it and I still love it.

Sam Cooke, outstanding

Rescue Me was Fontella Bass, what a voice.

I remember my old man going through an embarrassing country phase and listening to RUBY (kenny rogers I think) all the time, as a die hard Motown and Soul fan at the time I would just curl up when the damn song came on.

I bought the first two or three records I ever owned, together, in 1965. I bought one album and either one or two 45's, I don't remember exactly.

The album was, Beatles VI, and the 45 I remember, (which I still have,) was, "Lightning Strikes," by Lou Christie. Beatles VI, (which I also still have,) is the album which has, "Eight Days A Week," on it.

Baby Don't Get Hooked On Me

Mac Davis

Girl, you're gettin' that look in your eyes

And it's startin' to worry me

I ain't ready for no family ties

Nobody's gonna hurry me

Just keep it friendly, girl, 'cause I don't wanna leave

Don't start clingin' to me, girl, 'cause I can't breathe

CHORUS

Baby, baby, don't get hooked on me

Baby, baby, don't get hooked on me

'cause I'll just use you then I'll set you free

Baby, baby, don't get hooked on me

Girl, you're a hot-blooded woman-child

And it's warm where you're touchin' me

But I can tell by your tremblin' smile

You're seein' way too much in me

Girl, don't let your life get tangled up with mine

'cause I'll just leave you, I can't take no clingin' vine

CHORUS

That sure brings me back ACC!

My first two records were little 45's that were being offered at school through the Scholastic Reader program.

On 45 was "The Byrds" singing "So you want to be a Rock and Roll Star"

(The song, I might add, that I credit my future rock career to)

and on the other 45 was the Carpenters singing "Goodbye to Love"

Hey! There's no one like Alice! I've loved him since I was 11 and still do. I just got his latest CD, "Dirty Diamonds" and it is great! You just have to have a weird sense of humor to fully appreciate Alice like I do:-4

"Only Women Bleed" was probably one of the first ever recorded songs about violence toward women, it came out on the Welcome to My Nightmare album (one of the greatest concept albums of all time, in my opinion:guitarist ) from 1975...why does that sound so long ago:confused: I was fifteen at the time. I meant to mention in my first post that since I had been an Alice fan since I was 11, being that I am 45 now, I have loved him for 34 years!:-6

Couldn't find it. Got this one, though.

Mac Davis Lyrics

It' s Hard To Be Humble Lyrics

(spoken)

Back a few months ago, I was headlinin' a great big nightclub...

and they put me up a couple days early, I came in a couple days early

and they put me up in what they call the "Star Suite",

now here I am, headlinin' in one of the biggest nightclubs

in the country and I wake up at eight o'clock in the morning

in this "Star Suite"...

...all by myself.

Crowd: Awwww.

Mac: Yeah, that's what I said, "Awwwww."

But I did what I've always done, man, to cheer myself up,

I picked up my guitar, I sat down and I wrote me a little song.

Now this is how it feels to be alone at the top of the hill,

tryin' to figure out why.

(sung)

Chorus:

Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble

When you're perfect in every way

I can't wait to look in the mirror

Cause I get better lookin' each day

To know me is to love me

I must be a hell of a man

Oh Lord, it's hard to be humble

But I'm doin' the best that I can!

I used to have a girlfriend

But I guess she just couldn't compete

With all of these love-starved women

Who keep clamoring at my feet

Well I could probably find me another

But I guess they're all in awe of me

Who cares? I never get lonesome

Cause I treasure my own company.

Ohhhhhh.....

(chorus)

I guess you could say I'm a loner

A cowboy outlaw, tough and proud

Well, I could have lotsa friends if I wanted,

But then I wouldn't stand out from the crowd

Some folks say that I'm "egotistical",

Hell, I don't even know what that means!

I guess it has something to do with the way

That I fill out my skin-tight blue jeans

Ohhhhhh........

come on, where's all the kickers in here?!

(chorus)

One more time, what are we doin'?

We're doing the best that we can!

Give yourselves a hand.

Yeeee-haw!
