BR, this was the poker run weekend, 15,000 bikers have been ordered out. overseas highway is a bike parade! ...what's bad is that it may cross the peninsula and enter the gulf, not good news for NO and gulf coast. too early to tell yet. .

Scottno, disney is in orlando, kind of center of the state. they never take a hit, it's the coastlines that are endangered. and the keys are a string of islands at the very bottom of the peninsula, stretching 100 miles into the caribbean. ...by the way, i 'swiped' your lovely thistle photo!

the bikers NEVER (or rarely) give any trouble. :-6 every biker i go by gives me a thumbs up.

...nothing is happening weather-wise yet, and i will be just fine, i am more concerned this thing will follow katrina's path .

Last I saw, this one's projected path is Corpus Christi bound.

(I know the bikers here are usually respectful of cops, glad to hear they're the same way down there.)

1324 Rita is now a cat 2 and new orleans is again under mandatory evac............overseas hwy. in islamorada is under water...do not attempt to drive out of keys. lower matecumbe under water. people could drown in their cars if they try to leave on lower-lying bridges.

The latest I've been hearing is that it is going to make landfall around the Matagorda area which means Houston (where I live) and Galveston will be on the dirty side. According to the weather forcasters down here, Houston could see some severe flooding due to the storm surge. We'll also get high winds and rains. The storm is expected to be a Category 4. My parents ought to consider evacuating. Our house can withstand flooding up to a Category 3 storm. But for a Category 4 or 5 we need to evacuate because it shows that our house would be wiped out under those conditions. Of course this storm could decided to hit New Orleans. Last time a major hurricane was heading towards Texas, it did turn and hit Louisiana. I'm excited yet scared at the same time. :yh_worry

are you under evac order? i just this minute put up a thread about texas evac. your safety is more important than anything, it's not exciting, it's dangerous...you stay safe!!

your house may be able to withstand winds of a cat 3, but not flooding.
