Do you get on, if not why not?
Your Mother in law.
I have pretty good inlaws. They still invite me to family gatherings and treat me as one of the family even though my wife and I are divorced. A good bunch.

Your Mother in law.
That's nice Hoppy, my x husband is one of my closest friends but his Mum finds it hard to be nice to me, always found that quite strange.

Your Mother in law.
They didn't like me at first, only liked me after they found out I would take care of my husband when he became ill. I guess they thought I would shift the responsibility to them.

My mum-in-law didn't think I was good enough for her son! She was a superb cook, a superb knitter and a superb sewer, well she used to teach all that at school!
I was a good cook, but I didn't knit or sew - I couldn't get on with that at all, and I suppose I was not as 'domesticated' as she would have liked. I think that she just suffered me because her son loved me and married me! However, after a while, she seemed to change towards me, maybe it was something to do with the way I mended her iron (she could have got a severe shock off it, as the wires were all over the place! - no wonder it stopped working !). Also, I produced a grandson for her to dote over (her one and only grandchild), and she was thrilled at the way we looked after her grandchild ! :wah: There were all sorts of little things I sorted out for her, but nothing to do with cooking, knitting, or sewing :wah: Apparently she said to Chris one day that it wasn't the be all and end all of being a good wife to be a domestic wonder! "Gill has hidden talents in different things !"
She was so thrilled that we had offered her a 'granny flat' by converting an out-building. Apparently she was very moved that we wanted her near us!
We had realised that it would be a good idea if she could live closer, but be independant and self sufficient, but that we were 'on hand' should she need any help. She had had a heart attack about a year before.
Chris did the drawings and he and I designed the layout etc. We put in for planning permission and got it! We were just organising builders etc. and my mum-in-law was spending a couple of weeks with a friend down in Somerset. She was busy measuring up their kitchen, with regard to fitments, because it was so similar to the dimensions of the proposed kitchen in her new two bedroomed 'granny flat'. She was excitedly enthusiastic, and was kneeling on the kitchen floor, tape measure in hand, when she just keeled over and died of a heart attack !
It was a great shock to us all, but at least she died looking forward with enthusiasm and reassurance that she would not be alone, but she would still be her own independant person.
Yes, after a shakey start, my mum-in-law and I got on with each other quite well !

My Mother Im Law 'Rosie', Hence my Puppy's name, was the most wonderful woman I have ever met. A true Eastender who lived through the Blitz and the Battle of Britain. Twice she succumbed to The Luftwaffe during The London Blitz In 1940 even giving birth to my husbands brother on The Underground as the bombs fell.
She had an Inbuilt Cheery dispostition that always began with 'Allo me Darlin'.
Nothing got her down and we miss her terribly.

My mother-in-law is pretty cool. It took her a couple years to decide I was okay for her daughter. My wife is the one that had the problem with the mother-in-law, after 20 years my mother finally started being civil to her. I got really sick for a year and when she stuck by my side that is when everything changed for the better.

My mother-in-law was ok after we had our first face-off and she learned I didn't take her guff.
She was a real sweetheart for her last twenty years.
My wife's mother-in-law, on the other hand, was a bit crabby in her old age, be we got along pretty well.
