Odie, if you fancy a holiday I have glorious views over the bay you could admire whilst working your way through the ironing pile ;)

I soooo need a holiday...

My gosh Betty, you just have way to much to do!

The kids are already off, wow, that was quick.

I would love to come over there and watch such spectacular views over the bay, I wish I wasn't so afraid to fly.

I would do your ironing and make the meals for you and the kids.

or you can come here for a holiday and I will show you how to shovel 20 CM of snow.:yh_rotfl

Shovelling snow could be preferable to the hours I've just spent sat here preparing another presentation for tomorrow. :-3 This one is going to be hard going. :(

I did go to bed, it was gone midnight.

Presentation was ok, hated doing it but it contained all the right content and got praised for good use of critical content - yaaay!

Off to bed with 'Pamela' now, I may well be asleep before nine :D

Simple answer to that is nope, should be reading Evelina right now, but am putting it off and posting in FG instead, wonder if that excuse will wash with my tutor in Fridays seminar :wah:

I swear my brain aches, but on the other hand I can't stop studying and linking things up and then thinking oooohh that would be good for my essay, my head never switches off anymore aagggghhhhh.

First essay came back today, just a formative one, not bad marks apparently but I always want better :-5

your right as my brother climbed his way up to be a Controller, there was always courses he took to better his skills, he never stopped for years and just like you -it exhausted him, but as he said? -it was worth it in the end.;)

as we were speaking of weather today, saw on our news this is Britain's longest cold snap in 29 years.

Glad you got good marks.....but don't be so tough on yourself.;)

I'll try not to be. Probably won't have time this term anyway, soooo much reading to get through! Have read four books over Christmas and had set aside the days whilst the children were at school for lots more reading without interruptions. Best laid plans hey! Damn snow :wah:

Our local council is running out of grit so they trialled taking sand off the beaches  It didn't work though, just as well really.

Children have gone to their dad today, he had to walk up to get them from the main treated hill. The snow is coming down again thick and fast, I hope the children don't get snowed in at their dad's now! Lots of reading ahead for me now this weekend.

This term was a killer, 11 weeks of solid study are finally over. Easter holidays start now, with revision needed for four 2 hour exams in May. I am so pleased to take a break from the two hours driving four days a week too!

I am one term away from the end of my second year! :-6

Wow, from first day to the end of the second year...

Can't believe I have got this far to be honest. One downside is that I messed up the last exam, given things that happened the day before regarding my son and his school I should have deferred it. Hey ho, one re-sit to do out of four exams and the knowledge that it was circumstance that just caused me to fall apart on the day .

Off for a day out to a local gardens, relax and have lunch there, glorious weather for it. And time to remember what lots of supportive friends, my head of department and my brother keep telling me, 'give yourself a break, you are always beating yourself up over wanting to do better, you are completing your degree alongside two children to bring up, most other students are struggling to look after themselves and study, let alone two extras!'

Thank you all, been an odd couple of days, no children, no outstanding work to be done and no responsibilities!

Have spent a day out soaking up the sun, another day shopping, one evening at a friends drinking vodka and dancing around her living room and generally having a good laugh. Can sit and watch the tennis in peace now and conserve my energy for tonight, pub crawl and lots of dancing :-6

There was quite a gang of us that went out and we all let our hair down until 3am. The hangover wasn't good though :wah:

Today was the closing date for our option choices so fingers crossed the non assessed essays I produced last year average out high enough for me to be allowed my first choice of options.

We had two terms worth of modules to for the first term I chose 'Sex, Scandal and Sensation in Victorian Times', 'Witchcraft and Magic in Literature' or 'The Gothic'. The second term wasn't as interesting, I would love to do all three options above but alas can only do one :-1.

For the second term I chose 'Women and Writing: Romantic to Modern', 'Early Women Writers 1500 - 1700', or 'Writing Realist Short Stories' - god help me if I end up with that last one but it was that or Tolkien or Ulysees!!

Thesis or dissertation - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia is what we have to write in our final term. Showing independent research on a topic of our choice (within reason considering it's an English Literature degree) generally needs to be around 8,000 words although our word count has not been set yet. I start researching this next week by going to view the newly acquired Cornish archives at our uni.

We do two modules a term/semester, so last term I studied 'Modernism to the Contemporary' and 'From Romanticism to Decadence'. The term prior to that it was 'Reformation and Rebellion' and 'Reason and Unreason'. Each module is 11 to 12 weeks long and covers certain time periods within literature focusing on a book a week.

Betty,

Hi there. :)

I gather Dartmouth College has just merged with you (well, not you personally, but you know what I mean...). This should be fun, as two academic traditions collide...!

I imagine a lot of kerfuffle, but think the merger could work very well. You've already got the Tate Modern... Hotbed of something! Cornish Renaissance?

Oh, 3 more to go!

How long is your dissetation going to be?

For PhD's here, it is a book length manuscript-ghads, mine is long, around 400 pages. Most are published professionally later on, in that book form. You will rewrite forever, be prepared my dear. (I'm ready to kick it back to the old prof's, who still discuss mine, publishers, yadda yadda-I am tired of it, and starting book 2 this summer finally, I want a new subject to keep me interested.)

One more year! Will you go on after that, you are doing so well!

Just found the email I've been waiting for, my results have allowed me to study my first choices for two modules in my final year :guitarist:guitarist Will be studying Women's Writing: Romantic to Modern and Sex, Scandal and Sensation in Victorian Literature. Will also be studying Literature and Environment in the first term. Better start looking for the relevant reading lists and start reading!!

Chonsi, they've not set a word count for the dissertation yet, generally around 8,000 words. Gulp. :-3
