Did you happen to read this rule before you registered?

2. Self-Promotion :

Please do not post any messages anywhere on this site that are primarily for the promotion or advertising of any website, forums, email address, business, MLM, activity, or other entities that you have an affiliation with (ie. no self-promotion).

As stated, stay within the rules and you will not have any problems. Before signing up for any new forum, I highly suggest that you read the rules of that forum.

Just curious. Doesn't aut viam inveniam aut faciam mean: I will find a way or I will create one?

Just let it go and go with the flow. It would be a shame for you to leave. I hope you reconsider since there are so many nice and interesting people here in the garden. I, for one, hope you stay and tell us more about Finland.

What on earth is going on?????? I've been away for a week - taking care of family business. I really enjoyed meeting our first member from Finland, and now it's all gone down the toilet. Would someone kindly explain... sigh.

The Latin bit of Whomeno's siggie, I liked. It's ascribed to Hannibal, a pretty neat Cathaginian general who took on Rome and did something with elephants and the Alps. It means he'll either find a way or make one.

whomeno mistakes ForumGarden for a publicly owned municipal utility.

Treat it as an arbitrary rule. It has practical value to the people who administer it, that's all. It can scarcely be a vital part of your online experience.

I have yet to ask you how you ended up in Finland, for one thing.

Or was not what he was

Which is tragic becoz

I haven't said he isn't in Finland!! I asked how he ended up living in Finland since his English is obviously English English and not Foreign English. People in Finland don't speak English, they speak something local and throat-twisting. Polish, maybe.

Ahhhh.... ok.. I thought maybe you were implying one of our misunderstood former members had possibly reincarnated himself/herself in the land of the reindeer. I've been a few times in Scandinavia - and was always mega impressed by how good everyone's English seemed to be. Puts my Polish to shame. And yours too, I dare say. People in finland speak finnish and not polish-I trust you were being facetious. Why should it be surprising that a foreigner has an excellent command of the English language? Have you never been abroad? If you speak a language only 5 million or so speak learning other languages is essential-I bet his russian and swedish is pretty good as well. That's why most dutch and Belgians speak english, same with swedes or danes Try phoning a company in sweden-as soon as they hear English they switch to that language and you would be hard pushed to place the accent. just because we are crap with languages doesn't mean everybody else is rubbish. Come to that I know a few poles whose english is pretty good except now half way through a sentence they switch to broad scots then back to the accent less English they had learned to speak before coming here.

It's not that his english is good that should be cause for comment it's that our ability to speak teach other languages is very poor.

Simple enough them - an e-mail to the owners requesting permission and, possibly, coming to an agreement if it is decided to be a commercial link.

It's only courtesy after all.

give trusted members a badge or a star beneath their avatar when it is decided by the Mods that they show integrity to the board.

the "badge" would allow you to post links.

also this "badge" could be taken away for serious infractions.

It's called the fifteen post rule. Nobody can put a hyperlink into a post until they've been here that long.

Anyone can then post any hyperlink into any of their posts so long as they don't seek commercial advantage or embarrass the site with hotlinks or breach any of the other terms and conditions which relate also to text.

Why on earth is this seen as a problem by anyone?

I beg to differ there BC... baby-sitting a take-away our exclusive menu includes kebabs. The salad served with kebab meat is a Greek salad and Greek salad does not Include Onions. This leads to customers having to ask should they want onions. Greek Salad consists of white cabbage, carrot, tomatoes and cucumber. It is drizzled with olive oil, a splash of white vinegar, sale and pepper. If you are getting onions in your kebab then you must Interrogate the proprietor as to weather his salad is Greek or not. If he claims it to be Greek salad, then he is breaking the law by adding onions and should be sued forthwith or even fithwith.

When I wrote "Why on earth is this seen as a problem by anyone" I meant why does anyone think they ought to be able to do what the site management disallows?
