How racially/ethnically diverse is ForumGarden?

I was having an interesting discussion with several members and ex-members of FG not so long ago and the question of race and racism came up. Before I'd finally agreed to accept an invitation to join FG, many friends of other forums I was a member of considered FG to be primarily a white, Chr_stian forum. I didn't necessarily agree with that assessment, but having spent a few years on here, my perceptions have changed quite a bit since then. Do you believe that FG is diverse racially, ethnically, religiously? Explain.

In polls but without one?

It is primarily a white Christian site but, given it's origins that is to be expected. It is not, however, exclusively so and I see little evidence of overt racism being present and certainly not of it being accepted.

We do have a history of religious intolerance but this appears to be aimed at anyone who aggressively tries to force their religious views on the rest of the group rather than at members of any one religion.

All in all, as good as can be hoped for :)

For the record, I'm a caucasian Chr_stian. :p I do have some minor percentages of other races, however... otherwise, that would just be boring. I'm anything but boring! :D

I think religiously FG is diverse enough, though I doubt there is much in the way of ethnic diversity. But that's no fault of anyone here AFAICT.

Well, seeing as I only actually 'know' two people on FG (as in they live near me and have met them often) I don't really consider the ethnicity of other members. I tend to experience them in terms of thoughts, feelings and sentiment.

Me? Well, as you didn't have a 'pale blue' category, I opted for 'Caucasion'. I'm your typical english rose - very pale and interesting - I burn in the winter!!

:wah: That would qualify as white or Caucasian indeed.

I cannot see how one can tell how racially/ethnically diverse the members of Forum Garden are. They are not forced to enter any such information when they first become members. However, from my own experience on this site, I would say that the members are really multi-racial if anything. :)

I've got a question: Why is there no "I" in some of the posts that have the word Christian, Christmas, etc. Just curious.

I am predominately Caucasian with 2 Native American tribes' thinned-down blood coursing in my veins. As of today, I'm still agnostic, sort of.

I was afraid to ask.....thanks for daring. Thought it was something so obvious it was my fault for not getting it.

Could it be, There is no I in Christianity ? Meaning the first person, me?

Chr_st_an_ty has a trinity of _'s though.

Or it could be to illustrate the progression from the Old to the New Testament.

What race someone is has never really entered the equation on forum garden imo-you don't find out unless someone happens to mentions it, or you ask i suppose. Or more accurately it's never occurred to me to wonder about it.

Same with the sex of the poster-although some of the names like aussie pam make it blindingly obvious it's a female but names like nomad ,g~gill, zapata could be either or anything in between.

It's largely american-hardly surprising given it's origins and I suppose mainly white although I think you have to be an american to think you get white/black forums at all but why would you think an international discussion forum would necessarily be one or the other? That characterisation probably says more about the ones who make it than the forum itself. Does that mean they avoid it because they think it's white, or christian or because they only go on sites where everyone agrees with them cos it's easier?

Christian? Certainly they are the most aggressive religious group but whether most poster are religious at all is moot. Certainly Christians will get an argument whenever they want but secularists of whatever disposition tend not to evangelise in the same way as the religious. Actually I would avoid a Christian forum like the plague-I've never seen this one as being particularly a religious forum. Similarly I would avoid a parochial american one, apart from the bad spelling most of the issues would be local to the US and not of much interest.

Christian white? what an odd way to look at things. Why not socialist or fascist? there are all sides of the political spectrum on here whereas I have the impression amercan politics are right wing and more right wing. Discoursing with loony left godless europeans might broaden their horizons a bit.

C H I I K? :wah:

I knew something about this post intrigued me. Today I discovered what it is. I drive a maroon Infiniti and the back has gold letters which used to read

"I-N-F-I-N-I-T-I" The letters have gradually fallen off and now it looks like

_N-F-_-N-I-T_ So, because the Japanese auto makers didn't see fit to give me good letters on my otherwise nice car, I have to drive around looking like a nit wit, or "NF NIT, if you will.

Sorry if I went off topic but I'm still wondering about the missing "I's" from some people's posts.
