Just out of interest, if we define a few terms, I'd quite like to ask a question.

So - terminology. Light beer that has no hops is a lager and it's only possible to drink when it's been chilled close to freezing, certainly below 38 degrees Fahrenheit. Light beer that has hops is an ale and it's only possible to drink it when it's around the temperature of a reasonable cellar, perhaps around 50 degrees Fahrenheit.

I'm simplifying, of course, and those are English notions of "possible".

So, in the US, if it has hops, does the glass still have to be running with condensation for it to be considered palatable?

I've got a question. I was in Walmart, gazing at the bottles of hooch and I saw what looked like bottles of beer in a 4-pack or 6-pack but they had Jack Daniels labels on them. Any idea what they were? I didn't have time to read the packaging but my son-in-law likes JD, so if that's what they are, JD, I may have to go back and buy some.

Cask ale is beer. I'm not sure I'd extend the word to anything else, myself. I'm not sure it's available in the US.

You might find the article interesting, just to see the difference in the way we use the words. I'd call what's commonly called beer in the US a lager and yes, cold is the only way to drink it.

Certainly the "beer" I had in California had to be frozen before it was drinkable :wah:

You'd be surprised Bryn....We have many microbreweries popping up all over the USA. Samual Adams has some lovely ales.

I was about to complain that they make them all fizzy when I found this on their website. it’s a Bohemian-style Pilsner that is clean, distinctive and delicious. Samuel Adams Hallertau 24 could only be found at our Samuel Adams Brewery in Boston. In fact, we didn’t even keg it; we just poured it directly from the aging tank into pitchers.I take it all back. I might even visit Boston one day, it now has two attractions.

Yes, my family drinks 'cool' beer. But, sometimes during the heat of the summer...when it's 100F and humid, we love to drink the beer from a frosty mug.
