I am an american mutt, but a good portion of me is scottish. My mother's maiden name is McDonnell. She's a Minnesotan Irish Catholic farmer. I got the brownish/reddish hair that she never really had though. :p

Good evening from randall, :-6

As an ex-red headed little boy who has now joined the "Silver Surfers" I read with amazement in several newspapers and magazines this year about all the DISADVANTAGES of having red hair.

You are a no no at a job interview.

You are automatically assumed to be both quick and bad tempered.

You cannot be trusted.

You are a congenital liar.

And so on ad nauseum.

Also you are very prone to sunburn - Me, definitely, in the far east I swam with all my khakis on and a big hat.

You have either one or two layers of your skin missing.

Scratches and cuts become easily infected

The list kept getting longer with each newspaper until I began to think that it was a miracle that I had survived infancy let along grow up into an old man of the sea.

If anyone can obtain or construct a complete list I would be very glad to get a copy as our whole family on both side are peppered with red head.

One cousin, who recently died of breast cancer and was just a little younger than I was so similar to me that when walking together through the streets or parks people were often heard to say, "Look at that lovely pair of twins."

God bless.

Afternoon all, randall here,

I saw this in the preface of a "utility book" - these were books printed during World War II in Britain on poor quality paper to keep up moral but like the "Prefabs" - prefabricated houses built after the war and only supposed to last for a few years until "NEW HOUSES" (WE ARE STILL WAITING - D'HEAR") and last till today these books are also extant.

:D

randall waving the fiery cross again,

"Life is curious" as the song says and what is more curious than coincidences?

Listening to a late night TV group, a few weeks ago, having a good old yap with each other discussing the richest people in England.

The names forthcoming were numerous, varied and almost all unknown to me.

One of the group popped up with the question "What about the Scots?"

The reply was brief.

"There's no use speaking about the richest people in Scotland because they all give their money away such as, Sean Connery, Sir Tom Hunter and J.K. Rowling. They all appear not to have forgotten what it was like to be poor."

Today, Sunday morning, at the end of a new talk show called "Marr on Sunday" as they stood up to end the show (Andrew Marr and all his guests) he suddenly looked straight at the camera and said out of the blue

"Before we close I think we should all remember the adage of that great Scotsman Andrew Carnegie which has just been emulated in the last week by Sir Tom Hunter, "The man who dies wealthy dies a failure."

For the uninformed Sir Tom Hunter has just joined up with Bill Clinton and given over £50,000,000 in aid, each, to a certain fund.

Didn't Alice says "It gets curiouser and curiouser."?

Many thanks to all who wrote privately to give me advice on NOT LOOSING my writing.

I have just come across a free downloaded programme called "Connection Buddy" which simulates continuous activity to the server making them believe that your connection is fully engaged - another bright idea.

I hope some of you make use of it or am I the only one who writes novelettes?

God bless.

randall still lurking aroon,

For all like Helen and myself , and I'm sure there are others, I found "navigating" around this forum bit of a daunting chave.

I gave up on finding the flags and simply bought a sticker for a car and stuck it into my scanner.

Loaded it into a photographic programme and made it the required size - 80 x 80 - pixels, I believe, converted into the right format jpeg or something like that and it transferred itself onto my Post page like magic and I cannot really tell anyone what it did to achieve it - but it worked.

Now, how do I write my name and home place underneath the flags I have got.

Those who can help had better just put in the ordinary post as I am sure, from what I've read so far in other posts, many are dying to know the ins and outs of the system.

R. L. Stevenson wrote, "By the time a man gets well into his seventies his continued existence is a mere miracle."

ME! A MIRACLE - God forbid.

God Bless.

Randall, go into "My settings" (top of page) then click on edit profile,

Where it says "Custom user title" type in your name etc.

Now scroll right down to the bottom of the page and click "Save changes"

Your info will then appear on every post.

Good luck x
