Who do you think YOU are?

Post by Raven »

Me, I'm ENGLISH, IRISH, FRENCH AND DUTCH. According to the litany of my Grandmother, who was very proud of that heritage. English from my grandfathers side of the family, and the Le' Claire, Dugan and Reynolds from my Grandmother. From my Dad I get my Welsh and Native American.

I have traced a bit of 'tree'. The results are fascinating. It is amazing what part of your genetics influinces what you do and how you look today. I have always been interested in the recessive genes and how they pop up occasionally even now.

Anyone besides me, believe in genetic memory?

God only knows what my genetic memory is conjuring up. I havent traced back my ancestry any further than great grand parents - all English. I'm not sure if I would have any reaction to there being other genetic influences. I would probably say " Fine. It makes me who I am "

I'm happy and proud to be who I am, regardless of former family genes, wherever they are from.

I have always regarded myself as patriotic rather than nationalistic. I love my country rather than hating everybody elses. We're not so different really, when you dig deep. I like to celebrate the fact we have cultural differences rather than any of us having cultural superiority

I think I get my sense of exploration and discovery and adventure from my english bit. Nose is definitely native american. But as far as genetic memory, I mean believing you are the culimnation of all your ancestors. Every single one who contributed to you being here in the first place. Family lines. Which is why murder is soooooo bad. It's not just one person you kill. It is an entire family line that is wiped from existence.

I would love to find the pirate or pub maid that was transported to the colonies in indenture from Newgate prison. :-4

I can only relly relate this question to my parents and grand parents. All of which I see in myself and my children. In that respect I understand you when you talk of Genetic memory. So I am definitley aproduct of my mother and father. The traits are all there

Yeah but I bet you have some of the highwayman in you too! I reckon we are all from peasant stock, so I wonder how many of us have had great greats perish in a plague or revolt. And how much of that lives on in us? Big questions, I know. But ones we can find answers to! Britain keeps records all the way back to Stonehenge!

I think it would be safe to assume that, say, Americans and Australians would have a more mixed ancestry than us Brits and Irish. Your history is much more recent. Our mongrelism would have stated quite a bit longer ago. It would not be so unusual for us to find a long ancestry with little deviation

Well we live in the land of the Trinivantes! Which became the East Saxons and home to St. Cedd!
