Does anyone know of any websites or information places that tell you what countries disallow certain medications brought in?
We just had a safety meeting here at work, and a co-worker told us of a story of a friend who travelled into dubai and was put in jail because his cold medication contained Codene (can't spell) as Codene is a controled substance.
I will be booking an appiontment with my doctor before I go but my concern is I take sleeping pills and don't want to get in trouble carrying these into either Italy or Germany.

Carry all your prescriptions in the original container which carry the prescribing doctors name and pharmacy (chemist). As an additional safeguard you might want to carry a note from the doctor as to why a particular drug is prescribed. Carrying pills loose or in pill boxes will always arouse suspicion.

You can take your medication providing it has been prescribed for you and as Lon says, has the details on the bottles.

thanks guys, I have managed to get an appointment with my Dr as well before I go. Oh I always carrry my meds in the original bottles anywhere I go even if it is camping... you never know if you get into an accident loose consciousness and you are on any kind of special meds etc.
Thanks again

This is vanishingly unlikely, unless your pills contain some sort of controlled drug (which is most likely to be illegal in the USA as well) such as cannabis (etc.), cocaine, heroin, methadone, morphine, opium, LSD, etc. etc.

Original containers, note from Physician, and I alway get them to write me backup perscriptions just in case then you can get them filled if necessary where your traveling. Nothing worse that being without your medication or losing it, or not having enough if your trip gets delayed a day or 2. :-6

I've just discovered that (test thread). I'm probably a bit slow. Never mind.
Now back to exciting drugs and travel!!!

Lynda - do you mean your friend wants to travel about within Paris??? The metro is the way to go - you buy a 'carnet' of 10 tickets for about ten euros. Lots of maps available at the stations, and your ticket covers swapping between lines. You can get to most places with only one change. Above ground, I find walking works well, or your friend can take a cab. The cost is not too bad. Or get into the bike rental scene.. you collect a bike, ride where you want, and drop it off where you want... not for the fainthearted though in Parisian traffic. Bon voyage!!
