OBAMA made me do it..!!!
Obama's "Cash for Clunkers" program stops this weekend.
Obama made this Cash for Clunkers proposal to run to the end of the year 2009.
Since it was costing the Gov't millions - it ends Sunday August 23, 2009..
So, we bought a NEW CAR..!!!!!!!!!!!
Buick Lucerne 2009, this car is loaded, on star, port for my I-Pod, air conditioned seats, hands off phone in the steering wheel, everything IT'S BEAUTIFUL.!!
I love it - it has the old crome vents - like the old 50"s model
this has a wood steering wheel, it's just so cool. My husband & I have never bought a brand new car before - it's beautiful.
Oh - it's RED of course.:wah:

I'm jealous!!! Congrats, best of luck with it, may it never have to see the repair shop!!! Red, one of my favorite colors as well. My old "92" Buick Lesabre Limited is red too, with 105,000+ miles, still looks like new as always garaged, it is also loaded, not as much as yours though, but have it for second car when needed.
It's still too good to trade in, and our newer car is only 3 years old, which gets 27 to 29mpg, so. . . .

Lets just hope that Patsy gets her cluncker discount, as it was reported this morning that only "7"% of the rebates have been approved!!!
"Deception", seems to be a very "diplomatic" word to use in this case!!! :-5

I wanted to trade our clunker in but its only 2 yo with very low milage. Our other car is a Honda Accord which is very good with gas milage. The clunker is a Ford Explorer, and Eddie Bauer loaded also to the gills.

Acct.
We traded in our 2000 Buick LeSabre which had 117 thousand miles.
That was also a wonderful car, but that was our clunker & it was actually only worth @ $1500.00 as a trade in.
We also had & We sold our Chevy S10 a couple of yrs. ago.....
Can't find a better smooth riding vehicle like a Buick..
This new Buick is our traveling car, can't wait for our first road trip..
It's funny - when your young, you want cool, fast cars
The older I get - I want comfort, and this Buick Lucerne is comfort.
I love it - it's beautiful.. it wasn't cheap..!!
The Dealership stated - they will not turn down what the customer turns in as a clunker.. so go for it Acct..

Yes, but this is about new cars. Does your motorcycle have OnStar?

The one thing that was not thought of in this CFC program was the industries that this might not help and very well may hurt. Take the auto repair business, and the engine re manufacturing business. There are now 500,000 less vehicles on the road that might have needed repair or new engines. I read today that only 2 out of 10 cars bought thru this program were American autos.
I will admit that I gave my old 84 Bronco t my son to turn in on a new car. He got 4500.00 for it ans it was not worth $100.00. It was just my hunting and fishing transportation. I did tell him he had to buy American made and he settled on a Ford Fusion. The problem I had with it is he got very little off of sticker, he did get $1500.00 rebate from Ford. I still think that he would have gotten within $1,000 to $1500 if he had bought the same car without the trade in before CFC. The dealerships are making out like bandits. They don't have to discount as much because they can't even keep eligible new vehicles in stock. So they sell the cars for sticker prices with no discounts and then bank the money from the Govt.
Oh well what do ya do?

Honda & Toyota both have plants in the US. Only my opinion as I think the Honda is a way better car. Have never had any probs/recalls on it.

I have no prob's with them. If you have a factory here building them then I consider it American made.

I know Toyota has a factory in California & Honda has one in Kentucky. Yes, they are great cars but the Ford Fusion is also a good little car too. I see them all over the road...what color did he get?

Blue. Another industry that i was just reminded that is taking a bit of a hit is the mom and pop tire replacement business. 500,000 possible vehicles that might have needed replacement tires in the next couple of years are now off the road.

Unfortunately, although the cars are made here, (good for employees) the millions of $$$$$ made here goes overseas to the parent company in Japan, or where ever. So it's still not bolstering the US economy as much as it could/should, if it were a US company. :-2

Curious - your stated trading in a Ford & buying a Ford, there's a $1500.00
rebate.??
Is that like a end of the year tax deduction - or is your son getting a $1500.00 check? Never heard of any rebate ?
Good for him if it's a check.
I was able to get alot $$$ off the sticker price
I told the young man after listening to him nervously twisting the numbers - look we're here to buy a car today, so who do I talk to
negotiate a real price, bottomline price or we walk..????
We did get a great deal

Good for you Patsy, that's the only way to buy a car, (we do it that way also) "pressure them" into a good deal, not the other way around!

He basically paid sticker less the $1500.00 Ford rebate (taken off the price) and less the $4500.00 he got for the old Bronco. $22000.00 sticker price, got it for $16000.00. It was the last Ford fusion on the lot. This is also the largest dealership in Kansas and has advertised for months that it has sold more vehicles than any dealership in the nation this year. His best friend was his salesman and was basically told that if they werent friends he would not have even gotten the Ford rebate. Most others were paying sticker and fighting over the vehicles available that qualified.
Now who will be buying new vehicles for the next 6 months? The total is up to 625,000 cars. 625,000 cars now will not need fixed, tires etc. etc for years. I'm not complaining, just a part of the deal no one has brought up.

I realize that Cars. But at least some Americans are employed by some of those companies. That is why for me to give him the old Bronco to get this deal I pretty much told him he had to go Ford or GM. I would have prefered GM but he had a friend who worked at Ford.

I understand the ripple effect as far as other companys will miss their potential job
or service. I don't know - this economy is still on a tight rope...
I heard Obama has now started another GOV'T Rebate for appliances.
same concept as "Clunker" Rebate.
so the MayTag Man won't be just slow - now He'll need to retire.
