The Dry Spell Is Over!

Post by chonsigirl »

I have been at the Archives for a few days, researching again. I had made up my mind to start book 2 having waited long enough for book 1 to be published. So I have had a delightful time pulling up my new topic, getting the guards to help me with everything (what nice people there!) and even got over my mishap of my laptop and scanner in the case tumbling down the metro stairs last week. (gosh, do I look so old now, the guards carry everything now for me up and down the stairs-and lazy me, I just smile nicely and tote off after them doing such sweet things)

Good grief, I come home and am sitting here waiting for a late piano student and am reading my e-mail. One press is more than interested, I will have to tote on down to DC again soon to talk to them about book 1! Then the next e-mail-a whole list of articles to write, please write back tonight so you can have some of the good chapters!

The dry spell is over-my poetry has flourished during this time, but I have missed writing my little old history stuff. Ah, I am a happy girl today. :)

That's great news Chonsi! I'm glad your scanner and laptop survived their trip that could have been costly. I'm sure those guards just jump at the chance to help out such a lovely lady as you!

Good luck with Book 1, keeping everything crossed for you. :-4

Hello Chonsi:-4

Hope your summer is lovely. Isn't it nice to be home:p

May I ask what your 1st book is about.....Native Americans or poetry maybe.

Let us know when your books are published, and I will run out and buy them:D;)

Glad the dry spell is over...

It was dry spell in having my history stuff published. You get stuck on a topic for years, and you want to go on to new research. (11 years on this topic!)

Ah, my poetry is over on a poetry forum, and in two chapbooks. I spent last night with the electronic copyright stuff on the last one, boy, that was interesting to do.

My first book-it was my dissertation, about the California Indians. I have a group of little old prof's who have proof read it for years, and encouraged me in this. But after more than a decade on this topic I want another. It is nice to have your niche and be known for this, but I want to expand. I can always return to this whenever I want, nice topics for conferences.

The new topic is of course Native Americans/indigenous peoples, I am going to take a different outlook than historical/legal precedents and such stuff. You just sometimes go looking in the Archives and stumble upon something that you say-hey, wait a minute, do they know this stuff is in there and what it means? And you copy it fast in case it disappears for a few years. It didn't, so I hope when I am in the middle of it by next summer I can copy the transcripts themselves. So I will write it up as a historical narrative with a definite tangent in mind.
