I have a cream leather sofa in my lounge that i clean every day and like everything in its place. I have been like this all my life. Am i obsessed with tidiness or is it just being house proud?

I love to keep my house really tidy, i never leave my lounge/dining room/kitchen/study at night without picking up any cups, papers etc..

As I have already told folks on our forum, my house has been a tip for over 2 years. All have listened to me abnging on endlessly about the stress of all the building work that was going on.
Now, after 2 years, it is finally finished.
Brand new Kitchen.
Brand new bathroom.
Brand new flooring.
Brand new Fire-place.
Whole lounge gutted and all furnature replaced with 2 chocolate brown expensive leather sofa's that Yes, we clean every day.
Over £2,000 spent on lounge furanture alone.
Nearly £2,000 on the back patio.
No, we didn't rob the local branch, it was well invested policies that matured. (After giving Gordon Brown 40% in Tax).
Yes, we can all brag about what lovely new furnature we have, but most folks here are not so shallow as to care.
As an ex-saleswoman, I have been in many many homes in my life and I have always found that the the nicest folk come from homes with clutter.
You can have an immaculate house but be a very sad, lonely individual inside it.
Oh hang on........ I forgot the Brand new Giant Plasma screen and Brand new laptop to use while I'm watching it. Add another £2,000 on to that new lounge total.... seeing as your bragging.lol
Oh.... And the new car that Mr O won't let me smoke in.
If I'm feeling really shallow, I will probably think of some-thing else and add it........ Roll eyes.

I try to keep my home tidy also. My Mom always taught me that there's a place for everything, and everything in it's place. I'm very anal and can't work around a mess.

Absolutely, and i like to know where everything is.
I have such a hectic life, my house needs to be organized.
I am also ex military and i think that might have rubbed off on me, even my wardrobes are organised in colours.
I think though, that i might have gone a little bit mad when i hunted every where for matching dog and cat rugs so they looked okay in the kitchen.

I actually put a thread on here very recently about Mr O being ex-armed forces and having his clothes colour co-ordinated. Now the house is finished (Well almost, garden and hall to do), he even colour co-ordinates the towels in the airing cupboard. As I'm a slob, I just take pleasure in ruining it as often as I can. I also like going into Benneton shops just to unfold things.

LLB, I think you'd die if you called in to my house, at the moment!!!! It looks something like a warehouse inside - we're very busy being ruthless and removing stuff that we haven't used for a couple of years. It's a case of having collected two lots of parents special bits and pieces over the years, since they died, and having to hang on to all the paperwork from our business for at least 7 years after we stopped trading (just for the Inland Revenue's benefit !). Now that in itself, I dare say, would all be manageable. Trouble is we do not have an attic, and we do not have a basement !
Well, it all had to go somewhere didn't it ? :yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl
p.s. We've just found that our hallway and landing are wider than we thought !!! :yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl :yh_rotfl

But what a lovely lady you are in all that clutter. :-6 I know the feeling Gill. we had to get ruthless also. It was very difficult a few years back when we moved from a 3 bedroomed house into a much smaller place. Our parents had died also and we inherited all sorts, including boxes of pics of Mr O's Uncle liberating Austwich . It's so hard to decide what to keep and what not. I know you have had work done on the house as well and the stress that goes with it.

I'll hellp you out-you can come clean my house and make it that tidy, it never is! I think I am too Bohemian at heart to care, but would like it cleaned up once in awhile. Seems only the kitchen is spotless.

Thanks Chonsigirl. I doubt its like the places i have been in. My god i could write all day. And due to the fact that i am so tidy i was amazed how some people live. You would,nt believe it. If I was offered a drink i would have to decline as i would not be sure if the cups were clean etc.. Sometimes it would take me ages to get the smell away from under my nose, when i left.
I think though, i maybe a little extreme with my housework. And theres nothing wrong with being Bohemian, its classy rather than trashy. Theres a difference.

I have a cream leather sofa in my lounge that i clean every day and like everything in its place. I have been like this all my life. Am i obsessed with tidiness or is it just being house proud?
Are you for hire? (For cleaning)?

What you're doing is totally fine. There is nothing wrong with keeping clean and tidy. There are much worse things you can be doing with your time - like letting your place get gross and disgusting...

It's funny because only a few years earlier, we paid a cleaner and a dog walker because we were working such long hours. People get sick and circumstances change. next thing you know, they have changed for the better and your on the up again :-6 Another of my dad's sayings.... 'BE NICE TO PEOPLE ON YOUR WAY UP BECAUSE SURE AS HELL, YOU'LL MEET THEM AGAIN ON YOUR WAY DOWN'. wink wink
what you went through and others that are sick is different.
I like your dad's saying.

When I had the pulmery embolism, it actually changed my life. Material things didn't matter any more or weather the dust was mounting up. Pete being given 9 months to live soon after my scare just rammed that home. Yes, we leave dishes in the sink to catch the sun on the river bank while it's out..... that's real life. However, He has worked so hard in this house now with all the lovely new furnature and everything, that I'm a little tidier. When my house was a tip and during that never ending building work, I apologised to my brother one day and he said 'I want to be with you not your house'. Pete nows wants to knock out the bedroom windows and put patio doors in but I just can't take that brick dust again :-5

I have a cream leather sofa in my lounge that i clean every day and like everything in its place. I have been like this all my life. Am i obsessed with tidiness or is it just being house proud?
My house used to be very tidy...a long time ago. I had this little old lady neighbor that stopped me one day, she saw how hard I was always working. She told me "you'll always have something to clean, but you won't always have your family around". I took it to heart and am so grateful I did. I'll always have a mess, but I topped my priority list with my family, friends and my animals. They are so much more important to me than a clean house.:-4

As an ex-saleswoman, I have been in many many homes in my life and I have always found that the the nicest folk come from homes with clutter.
Oh thank you for the compliment:wah:...I can't even imagine moving...the amount of crap that would fly out of this house:wah:. Although we just had bulk trash day, I managed to clean out half of the basement:), crap we hadn't used in years went out the door...hubs wasn't pleased:wah:...christmas I couldn't even walk in the back room of the basement without killing meself:wah:

Some people who's houses are immaculate need to pay attention to their body odour. I have met the odd one who's house was like a show case but neglected the basics of their own personal hygiene. Then, everyone is different, it's what makes the world go round.

:yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl I know a guy that does work installing phones, wires, etc. He says these houses are immaculate but then he goes to install the stuff & is drilling through the walls and out comes mother nature & her brood...roaches.

Yuk... I must admit that I have a hang up with body Odour. when I was working 14 hours a day, i would take toothbrush, soap the lot for a quick freshen up. To be fair, some people can't smell themselves can they? They may have no idea that they are smelling like a ripe Brie. They may look great but have no idea of the other bits.
You know me, I don't mind any insect even roaches but I've never had anything like that in my home apart from spiders.

But I have spent the day working the garden and come inside and the dog won't even hang out with me anymore...:wah:
