Police officer may face manslaughter charge over G20 protests

Post by Bill Sikes »

"A police officer could be facing a manslaughter charge over the death of Ian Tomlinson at the G20 protests, after the Independent Police Complaints Commission passed a file on the investigation to prosecutors.

Investigators have passed a file of evidence to prosecutors about the death of the newspaper vendor, who was captured on camera being struck with a baton and pushed to the ground by a riot officer minutes before he died."

Bill

I have to say that i dont think this police officer has a defence here, unless we did,nt see all the footage prior to the shots shown on the news.

It's pretty damning the officer was filmed pushing the victim in the back, and the victim had his hands in his pocket. The victim then fell straight on to the ground and the rest his history. It showed no confrontation from the victim at that point.

It must be very distressing for the victims family to have such footage of your relatives last minutes of his life.

I am not sure how the police will deal with this, lets just wait and see.

It does make you wonder, though, would charges have still been brought had there been no video footage of the actual incident ?? I, personally, doubt this very much.

Yes, It should be illegal. We are all accountable in this country so the police should be no different.

I agree, the video leaves the officer without any defence. He was probably just being cocky, am i right in thinking the man wasnt even part of the protest ?
