So was it all too much did the pressure of first being praised to the heavens and then slagged off by the british press become overwhelming or was it just a temper tantrum as some suggest?

The publicity whirlwind that she's been on would have been overwhelming for an experienced celebrity, but for someone who has a disability and was pushed into the limelight from a simple, relatively quiet life,I'm not at all surprised that she has cracked under the stress and pressure.
If I read her labelled as a virgin one more time,I think I'll go crackers myself!!:-5:-5

Knowing some other people from my past who this has happened to through pressure of show biz those words are so true. Many turn to drink and drugs and some make it through and some dont but the pressure on her is huge and remember she is not street wise meaning this must be such a huge shock to her system. The whole world now know the name Susan Boyle but she is now paying the price.Yes she did apply to go on the show some may say and made her own bed but she had no idea as nobody else did how huge this would all become.Im sure she will be well looked after and hope she will also be able to accept the time when all the hype dies down.

It could be just her believing in all the hype, and she couldn't hack it not winning.
Or it could be her manager doing it for publicity.
Then again I am a cynical sod.

I agree with you as i'm another cynical sod. Did you read about her trying it on with one of the young lads? But then that could be just the tabloids beefing a story up.

Anyway, i hope she gets a rest in there and is not exploited too much when she comes out.

That was my guess - from an ordinary life, to being well-known, & promised all sorts of things, then the dream fading at the last hurdle - I wouldn't condemn her if she's flipped over this to some extent. There's probably still rather a lot in it for her in the future, too.

Anyway I agree I hope she is looked after and heard Simon Cowell is going to sign her for an album...but hopefully will consider her future very carefully before he thinks about the money side of it.

Her recent schedule would exhaust any of us. I hope she get the care and rest she needs.

I don't watch the programme, cannot stand it, but can't help reading about it...I think the poor lass has been manipulated. She was obviuosly chosen for the 'gawp' factor...and is now paying the price.
Did anyone try to judge her mental state BEFORE she went on? Or, was her fragility the reason she was picked? Either way, she has been done wrong..and I feel really sad for her.

Its sort of delicate i suppose,, as we cant and really should'nt discriminate against people who may have a slight mental disability,, or a learning disability i think its been called
so in one way ,, it seems unfair as its obvious that will have a factor in how she copes,, but in another way its unfair if she is denied a chance of having a go at chasing her dream just because she has a disability
they dont get " picked" they have to apply to audition and its based on how good they are at the audition wether they progress to the next round,, and i dont think anyone could deny the fact she was well deserved of being in the final:D

I agree that she's been manipulated to a certain degree.
Would the publicity hype have been as manic if she had been deemed attractive and full of confidence?
The way she has been *used* speaks volumes of what the press can do.
I think people were made to feel sorry for her because she was seen as unattractive and somehow not worthy of success in her former life.
How shallow that shows how the public are to a certain extent.
Susan has a wonderful voice regardless as to whether her eyebrows are less bushy or her clothes are more fashionable.
And who gives a flying fig whether she's a virgin or not!!:-5

Come to the US Susan - we love you..
I feel so sad for her - too bad her mother has died, she really needs a guardian or close friend with her & to discuss things.
I don't think she expected 2nd place..?
complete let down - and watching her on finals - she didn't look right at that time.
If she had guidance - no one would know she's a virgin...
sad

Can't wait for the tell-all book and the movie. They'll probably cast somebody like Drew Barrymore as Susan.
