Oh yes...I miss cheesesteaks...thats always the first thing I get when I go home. It's a little deli in Narberth off Montgomery Ave (Rt. 30) near The General Wayne Inn.
THANKS FOR ALL THOSE WELCOMES!!
My kids were all born in Bryn Mawr Hospital:wah: I grew up in Drexel Hill right off Rt. 1 (Township Line Road) but am currently living in Collingdale. Hubs grew up in Havertown.
The General Wayne Inn - that place has some history:wah:. Murders, etc. So, did you go to Haverford High School?
Your making me hungry with the reference to cheesesteaks:-4. Plain w/extra cheese, some S&P on a toasted roll.

Don't know about these cheesesteaks. Prefer mine made of beef, fillet if budget stretches, grilled 'til it's just hot in the middle.
Dribble.
As it is, I shall cook a salmon fillet and have an extra one as a "welcome!" lunch for you!
You'll find it a culture shock when you get here, let alone the "rubber/eraser" and "pants/trousers" issues.:wah:
However, we do have about 30,000,000 different beers to help dull the pain.

Ducks: my mom still works at Bryn Mawr Hospital...I used to volunteer there way back when I actually had free time...long ago
I went to Harriton HS in Rosemont, Welsh Valley Jr High in...um...Bala Cynwyd? haha..forget what town it is. Gladwyne Elementary. My grandparents used to live in Havertown....small world isnt it?
Thanks again Jester..yes the C17 is a great ride for sure! Thanks again for your service
Sunshine, thank you for the welcome. I'm sure I will enjoy it here. If Hamster likes it, there no way I couldnt. I'm about as mental as she is, which is why I love her
Clodhopper, I'm sure I'll get a few things wrong over there before I get them right. I still dont know how I'll react when someone asks me if I wanna go blow a fag but hey, if I get a smoke out of the deal, why the hell not?
(I'll regret that one). And thanks for the food!! now, how about 1 of those beers to wash it down with?

Small world is right! My daughter has friends who live in Haverford right off Haverford Ave. They all went to Bonner & Prendie. Hubs always used to go to The Rusty Nail over there after all the births, etc.:wah:

If someone says that, run!
If, on the other hand, they ask if you want to suck on a fag, they are offering you a cigarette. Honest.
British beer is too big a subject for this thread:) In short, check out CAMRA on the internet.
Two personal favourites:
Grandstand (Twickenham Ales)
London Pride (Fullers)

Theakston's....mmmmm.
Had a few pints of XB in Masham a few years back. Don't remember anything else.:wah:
London Pride is a local beer, and kept properly by a good Landlord is really great, but I'm told it doesn't travel particularly well. However, you can actually drink more than one pint of it and still remember who you are!

I had that same experience in Masham ha ha.
I must have picked a bad pub then. I loved the taste of Pride but it seemed to have no head. I lived and worked in Hayes, can't remember the name of the pub but it was by the station. Deeply disappointed.
Like you say maybe it doesn't travel well..even to West London :wah:

Ahah! I think it's a London thing - we don't generally want a head on our beer. We paid for the beer, not an inch of froth on the top! Was chatting with a Welsh bloke a while back, and he also commented on this, while singing the praise of Brain's.

The Nuthouse would be where my mother lives.... :wah: or is it one of he wings of Bryn Mawr Hospital? Acutally, I dont know any nuthouses...or cant remember to be honest. sounds familiar but...cant think of it.
Rusty Nail sounds familiar too but Ok, I guess I'm not THAT familiar with Hav. Ave. I left there in 1988 when I joined the Air Force so...I'm sure I forgot alot more than I think I did :yh_rotfl
There's a bowling alley down on the south side of Hav Ave just past County Line road, I think its technically in Havertown, before a train bridge, huge church and cemetary. I used to hang out there alot. Manoa Lanes I think it's called.

St. Denis is what your thinking of. The Nuthouse is still there on I'm thinking Darby Rd. Manoa Lanes is long gone:wah: Manoa Shopping Center is still around but Weinbergers is also gone now and has been replaced with an Applebees restuarant. Did you ever party down at the Courts? It would the woods behind Aronimink Swim Club?

Manoa Lanes are gone? oh....what a shame. or not.
I spent most of my partying days in Bryn Mawr, Ardmore, St. Davids, Wayne...or of course down in the city on South Street. Some good memories from down there, and some not so good ones
I used to row on the Schuykyll also...out of Vesper. LOVED that. "The Court" sounds familiar, but i'm honestly not sure if I did or not...
Do you know where The Cricket Club is on Montgomery Ave in Haverford? I lived just down the street from there.

Used to love driving past it and smelling gum being made.
Oh yeah South Street - used to party down there in the early 80's and always ended up at Jim's Steaks.:wah:

Dontcha just LOVE the Queens English? (even though the Queen doesn't speak it!)
You sound like such a lovely person in this thread and our Hammy is a beautiful person, both inside and out, and I hope you'll both be very happy together. :-4:-4
So have you set any dates? And are you planning to live in Blighty or Stateside?
I love wedding plans. Can we have an FG meetup at your reception???

Welcome to FG Hammy's Knight. Enjoy the garden with all its blooms...especially the English roses!

Um..I'll just make sure I never run out of my own cigarettes...that way I can just avoid the confusion...and all else
Thank you...but I'm just me. Hamster makes me what I am by letting me be me...enough said..haha. No firm decisions have been made yet on whose landside we'll infest but when we do decide, i'm sure everyone will know. Gotta give the residents time to prepare for our arrival
You can ask Hamster about a meetup at the reception...she's in charge
thank you for that kind welcome.
Swimming Maggie...your lovely Hamster did in fact try to get me to call you "mother" but I refused adamantly. thats my story and i'm sticking to it
Thank you Odie!!
Duckie...I remember the gum plant...closed huh?
What's next? the King of Prussia Mall? we can always hope. hahahaa
Hamster...quit tryin to get me in trouble with mum before I'm even family

The KOP mall isn't closed yet, but it is empty thanks to the recession.:wah: I can't stand that mall - too big.

IDK, I like the Springfield Mall better and then there is the Marple Crossroads shopping center over in Springfield off Rt. 1 which has nice stores like Old Navy, etc. plus the AMC. Your mom probs knows this. It is also a b*tch to get to the KOP via the Blue Route. You know what is still around and I wonder if your familiar with it is the Yummy Bakery in Havertown...yup, still has the best German buttercakes:-4

Nope, not familiar with that bakery.
I remember back in the day...near Villanova there used to be an ice skating rink, do you remember that? right off Lancaster Ave at the intersection where the stop light is where that itty bitty bank is that looks like a 150 year old house, or older. I used to go there all the time. they even had an outdoor pool...it was open summers too before you say something about drilling a hole in the ice to swim

Don't remember that rink...we used to go ice skating at Springton Resovoir (?) over near the Philly Water Works. It's illegal to do it now.:-5 The only time I go to Wayne is to go to their awesome second hand stores, etc., plus the Bryn Mawr thrift store by the hospital. Always some great finds. And yes, we used to sneak over to the reservior to go swimming in the summer, lol. A big no no.:wah: Are you familiar with Aronimink Swim Club?
