How far would you go

Post by kmhowe72 »

(I am not avociating, or advising any violent behavior) But I want to know how far would you go in protecting your child from being hurt ? How far would you go to protect your home?

what are some examples you have taken to protect your home and your family? :-6

Well first of all I don't know how far I would go. Probably just as far as to save my child. and My husband and I just bought first alert alarms you put on the doors and window. we cannot afford ATD rightnow. Plus I don't think My landlord would allow it. I put my childrens room in the back of the apartment so, it's harder to get to from the outside. The windws are very high anyway, even for the first floor. We don't block any exits just in case of fire. we have a fire extinguisher. We makesure that all the doors are locked. But wew do get up in the middle of the night to makesure everything is fine. We have hanging bells on the windows, so if someone comes in the window the bell sounds, and it's loud enough to wake us up.

I know this is going stir some people. But I hoped that maybe it would make us think a little bit. Well 11:24 esdt time and I am going to bed. Sleep tight

I dont have children so I cant know that fight inside to keep your children safe but Ill relay a story from my "drinking years"

I was out with friends all day, we went to a concert then some bars and I was lit. I lost my keys somewhere along the way and when I got dropped off at 3 am I went around to the back of the 1st fl apt bldg I lived in because I thought my bedroom window might be open.

I took the screen off and got one leg in, starting to bring my head in when I heard a double click. CH..CH.

It was a double barrel shotgun pointed at my skull. I had climbed into my neighbors 13 yr old daughters window.

Needless to say I apologized many many times, but he told me the trigger was close to hitting the hammer and that would have been that. He would have had no problem whatsoever killing me to protect his family, and I agree with him 100%. He showed more restraint than I might have were the tables turned.

I literally dodged a bullet that night.

Definitley an odd post km.

Regarding how far i would go..... i doubt that it is appropriate for me to say within the scope of this forum as a whole.

I was employed to install alarm systems for a while. Generally speaking, any loud sound deters almost any creature, especially those that are uncertain of themselves in the first place (like, for instance, any person attempting entry into your personal space with unfamiliar territory and the constant nag of the police heat on their neck) The last thing any would-be intruder wants is attention.

You do well by putting yourself first before your children in harm's way, but, remember, most uninvited guests sneak in the back way, so, perhaps motion detecting lights, dog... etc?

Personally, when i get my house in a couple of months, i do not want a monitoring service. I will have such a nerve racking siren that the first time i test it for quality, everyone will know. Neighbors generally like their own safety too, and, once they know one of theirs is having a problem, they sit up and wake up. Unless you have stupid neighbors.

All in all... you should probably do what YOU think is best. For, you're the only one who knows your surroundings. On average, there's not TOO much to worry about, but, if you feel you are in a situation that requires extra attention... well.... i'll just see how this thread goes b/f i get into it.

No need to apologize at all. Not everyone is taken seriously when they say they've had a gun pointed at them, it's surreal, to say the least. That one was a long time ago, and I've dealt with it.

I will, however, take all the hugs I can get!!! :yh_bigsmi

Maybe this will loosen your tongue, PM: If an intruder were to break into my house, I would shoot first (weapon of choice: the Mossberg) and ask questions later. Plain and simple.

OK...

First of all, I have not trusted myself with guns, therefore, i do not own one yet.

Second, I own many bladed instruments.

Of course, it is all situation dependent. i.e: if it's some little punk kid about 16 or 17 just now discovering his unfounded, misplaced, adventurous naughty nature..... i would simply tell the police i am not pressing charges, i feel the fact that I have photos of him "accidentally sitting" on that broom handle WAY too hard is enough of his humilty for me.

What do you mean by "yet"?? I am a die-hard, true-blue, huntin', fishin' hard-core constitutionalist who loves her guns. I am NOT, however, in favor of people owning guns who are not responsible. So can we delve into your statement a little deeper?

I have no qualms about my nature.

Over time, i knew i was very reactionary, and had no business meddling in the realm of powdered weapons, although half of my family owned many. Guns are far too often used in fear and insecurity to replace imagination and understanding when it comes to dealing with a wide veriety of control based situations.

I have many bladed weapons that will take care of more situations than necessary.

I WILL posess several guns soon, the first being a rifle. I have moved into wanting to kiil that which i eat. It's a respect thing. But, i will probably stick with the bow i have for a long time.

Given the current state of affairs in this country, i should probably get off my rear and get some guns now.

Don't take it personally, i just want to find the alternative before i whack some sorry dolt. But, then again, you gotta do what you gotta do.

I'm tired of dancing around words, lemmie get a couple more beers in me and i tell you all bout it :)

Damn, PM, you really know how to tweak a gal's interest, don't ya? I have about 2,000 questions for you now.

Tell me to go take a flying leap to anything you don't want to answer.

So you bow hunt. For how long, and what type of bow do you use?

If you're reactionary, and don't trust yourself with a gun, why would you buy one?

I don't take anything personally, but I'm not sure what you mean by "whacking some dolt." You think you'd kill someone, or what? That statement got me a tad confused.

Far Rider wrote: BR I'm sorry I cant post what I want after readin it and rereading it I just cant.

Let me tell you about a non combat time. I was the DD when a bunch of buddies went out drinkin, we were all a part of differnt teams learning some interrogation techniques at a military school. we had gone out at graduation and were yucking it up pretty good. I was totally sober as I very seldom drink, an argument broke out between two of our on guys and a memeber of another group came over and told them to quiet down or get out. one thing led to another and the two guys were fighting, someone went out to their car and came back in with a 9mm. I saw it in an instant as it came up pointing at one of my buddies. I yelled 'gun' and the whole place sobered up in a second. I stepped in and disarmed the man as he squeezed off the first round, luckily it missed everyone. I broke his wrist and arm twisting it away. and he went down in a second.

Afterword when the cops were sorting it all out and I was going over and demonstrating where I was when it all went down, the cop showed me the trajectory of the round. it probably missed my left hip by two to three inches.

yeah it was sobering, and I didnt even drink that night.

Strange enough, i had a similar situation, but, no shot was fired. To keep it very short:

It was known via whispers and subtle hints there was a guy walking around sporting a revolver eager to be waived around. For whatever reason it is that I do what I do, I found out who it was, and backed them in the corner after seeing the bulge in their waiste. I made sure they had no true freedom of movement, and there were at least several ppl observing. He reached for it, so did I. After a few simple words along the lines of "there's no need for this, just get rid of it", he walked out with a renewed sense of understanding. I think he actually believed i was going to remove my hand from that gun he had. Looking back, I wonder what allowed me to forget mortality.

Well, BR, not trying to grab you, just trying to describe myself a little. After all, I'm the noob right? :)

I WAS reactionary. After many years of thought and bitching at myself, I finally settled on an even keel (that doesn't mean i would not poke out someone's temple with my thumb for raping my mother). The single point is: I did not choose the easy way out.

Do I bow hunt? ...... not yet, but, i am good with the dang thang and I am tired of Bi-Lo and Tyson feeding me. Lack of funds has kept me from bowing around (arrows not cheap). I'm close to saying hell with it and making my own. I have only 2 bows. 1 recurve and 1 compound. No crossbow yet.

Oh..... and as far as your question about whether I would kill someone or not..... it would truely take a dolt for me to kill them, because I give them so many ways out. But, like i said, sometimes you gotta do what you gotta do.

Answer to original question:

There are many ways in which I wish I'd gone farther to protect my children. Sometimes the danger sneaks in and I'm polite and passive and didn't recognize it.

In an "acute" situation however. Whoever attempts to harm my child better plan on a death match! I was raised by special forces and firemen, cops, etc. I know how to use a weapon and would not hesitate. I have pulled a gun on someone only once... to protect my virtue... :yh_angel

I have been on both ends of a shotgun. Chilling sound. I keep one just for that purpose. When someone hears that sound, you rarely have to use it.
