1) In general, widget (pronounced WIH-jit ) is a term used to refer to any discrete object, usually of some mechanical nature and relatively small size, when it doesn't have a name, when you can't remember the name, or when you're talking about a class of certain unknown objects in general.
I first heard the term form my grampa- it was a fictitious object used to discribe a process in manufacturing or to explian to me how things move through the economy...
A man had a widget factory, and sold them for $10- the manufacture cost of a widget was $.10 and he sold 5 million a year, etc.
Or a watchmacallit?

poor guy! I hope he had someone to put the fire out!
okay it was Christmas and we were at some relatives house and all the guys went outside to shoot firecrackers, they had the rockets on the ground and they would light then and they would shoot up into the air, the guys were all kinda standing around in a circle watching when one of the rockets when it was lite instead of shooting up it fell over sideways! it was the funniest thing seeing all those guys scatter, they were running every which way! :yh_rotfl
when the thing finally went off as luck would have it my hubby was in the line of fire! :yh_rotfl it scorched the seat of his pants! :yh_rotfl
we all laughed that we wished someone had a video camera because it looked like something from American funniest home videos! :yh_rotfl:yh_rotfl
