Six Nations, one almighty ruck!

Post by Clodhopper »

The best sporting competition in the world (with the possible exception of the Ashes) kicks off in less than an hour. For the next six weeks England Ireland Scotland Wales France and Italy will be playing Rugby Union against eachother each weekend. Every match is a Cup Final and Wales are strong favourites. But no-one with any Rugby nous ever dismisses the French.

COME ON ENGLAND!

The Italians actually won a game once if I remember right. Are they seriously going to play in this weather? Has someone gone over the turf with hair-dryers yesterday and laid straw down overnight?

I must say I take huge delight in a well-won game against good competition regardless of which side wins it. Even the French if they do it with aplomb and don't gloat. I like complete surprises too like if Wales brings home a Grand Slam.

I do miss Bill McLaren though.

Yup, congrats to Ireland. That was a grand game!

Wales/Scotland this afternoon, which I shall enjoy as a true neutral, resisting the temptation to want Wales to lose after reading some of the posts on the BBC.

I will be very interested to see how the Scottish scrum performs. I have the suspicion the Scots have been quietly developing a very effective technique based around the traditional virtue of packing low. Whether it will be enough to stop the Welsh, who really do have a very good side, is moot. I rather suspect not.

Yes, it's already shaping up to be a good tournament this year, I am relishing the match against England, that should be a cracking game. It will be interesting to see how good Wales are today, it will tell a lot. They were very good last year. I don't rate Scotland at the moment, but you never know, maybe they have been working on their game up there in Edinburgh.

Seriously though Ireland were magnificent yesterday, that is a damn good French team it took a lot to beat them. :-6
